Yeah, I know ICG is a Midwest and Southeastern railroad and very few people model the southeast. In Illinois, about four people will admit to modeling IC or ICG before public ridicule drives them back into the closet.... Now that was fun! I'm thinking about taking a stab at an ICG Paducah built GP11. It looks fairly easy. I know they put a home built EMD spartan cab moved it forward about 12", shortened the nose and added a large anti-climber porch.

Jim,May not have been top shelf but,I took a P2K GP20 and some DA and DW parts and made a GP11..Perfect..LOL! NOOOOooo! But,I like it and after four years I sold it to a follow club member..He still owns it and its still lettered for my old what if Artemus-Jellico Ry.Yes,that was a real railroad that ran between Artemus Ky and Jellico Tn..
This railroad at one time owned Southern 4501.

Cool looking locomotives those!
Keep in mind, the conductor's side has the raised blower ductwalk along the long hood, like on more-modern EMDs. If I recall, that'll require some odd-height hood doors.

Jim, with the Illinois Central or ICG rebuilds you really have to have pictures of the particular unit you are interested in modeling. They just cut and pasted the pieces of units together, and there was not necessarily a lot or rhyme and or reason as to what went where. I was in Paducah when they were doing some GP8 and 10 rebuilds for Conrail in the late 1977 time frame, and I was amazed to see some of the mixing and matching going on. It was before the GP-11 program for sure, but the GP-11's I saw were definitely suffering from the same mix and match itus.
Should be an interesting build to watch.

The long hood is raised up a few inches, you can even see it in the photo, a filler added at the base. Someone did an article in MR or RMC in the last year or so where they made one - using a Front Range shell, of all things, the grilles on those have never looked right to me.

Interesting that you was going do a "what if" on the Artemus-Jellico Railroad. While the Artemus-Jellico Railroad was abandoned by the early 1950's, I looked at possibly modeling it as a L&N branch set after its real-life abandonment.
Just a minor corection. The Kentucky & Tennessee Railway, which interchanged with the Southern at Stearns, KY bought Southern 4501 after the Southern retired it and operated it as K&T #12 through the early 1960's. One can still ride on the K&T, now known as the Big South Fork Scenic Railway.

I should have taken the few minutes to doubled check by looking it up in my copy of "Ghost Railroads Of Kentucky" by Elmer Sulzer.

Peddler,
I just hated that my second posting was a "nitpicky" one. I guess I have spent too much time poking around in that area of the country, exploring the K&T, Tennessee Railway and the New River & Brimstone. I still would like to do more of that if I can ever find the time to get back up there. The last time was behind TVRM 630, which got me back to Oneida, even if it was for a few hours.
