Exactrail has a teaser up on their Facebook page of something new that will be announced at the National Train Show on 18 July. Let the speculation begin. I'm guessing it's a freight car and I'm hoping it's the ACF 4600 and ACF 4460 covered hoppers I keep bugging them about.

A comment from ExactRail on their Facebook thread suggests it's a transition era car.

That would be nice! I don't have many good ACF's.

Blaine mentioned this in his post a while back, that they are planning to announce several more new models this year. Although I don't model the transition era, it'll be nice to see those modelers get something new. It will also give my wallet a break - I haven't been able to keep up with their last few releases.

Hopefully they're continuing with road-specific coil cars and doing the BN/BNSF COIL CARe and COIL CARe XL.

Like the Ingalls 4-S pic that goes up with any new product teasers. It'll happen one day...just be patient.

Transition era car would be a good contrast to the very modern cars announced last couple of times (coal car and coil car).
Like Dave, I'm always having a hard time keeping up!

Well the transition era tease blew away my guess of the Southern Railway "Big John". Unless transition era has a double meaning--the move from smaller freight cars of the '60s to the heavy haulers of today.

It's a strange looking beast in the photo - no idea what it is. Some "want-list" items are important to a small fandom, but they do still get made! If there is an up side to the limited appeal syndrome, it gives the rest of us a chance to recharge our funds! I definitely haven't picked up everything on my want list yet so new announcements are often a mixed blessing!
Speaking of mixed blessing, one thing I expect ExactRail to announce again will be more D&RGW Bethlehem hoppers and I expect once again they will sell so fast I may only be able to get a small number. Good for ER at least!

What I would love to see would be either a PRR/PC/CR G-43 gon or a PRR/PC/LV/CR X-58 box. The gons ran around until a few years ago. Very common car in the east. I've heard from another manufacturer that were considering the X-58 that someone else would be doing it so thats why they canceled their plans to do one. Maybe this is the other manufacturer hopefully. ----------- Ken

IIRC, Railyard did the X58 (and some other neat cars) before folding.
The Railyard guy went to Intermountain, I think, but not sure where molds or tooling went. RF was low volume, Intermountain is med to high volume, so outside of drawings and maybe some detail parts, not sure much would transfer.
ETA, IF MY SMARTPHONE SWITCHES TO WIFI ONE MORE TIME, I AM GONNA BE ALL CAPS ANGRY.

Out of all the train cars I could vote for, open racks or racks of the 70's are in my top want list. Cheers, Jim

'70s era Bulkhead Flat would be nice, but I'd sure like an X-58 or G41.

RF was low volume, Intermountain is med to high volume, so outside of drawings and maybe some detail parts, not sure much would transfer. Railyard's models were all resin kits, so the parts and molds wouldn't be reusable as is, but Gene could bring a lot of knowledge and research material to their team to help reproduce the X58 in plastic. I definitely think it would be a popular model - it's a signature prototype for the Pennsy's later years, as well as PC, Conrail, and eventually CSX (not sure if NS kept any, or how long they lasted). '70s era Bulkhead Flat would be nice Also agree with that. 70's bulkheads and auto racks represent some very much needed freight car types.

A year or so back on the STFMC Yahoo group, it was indicated that Exactrail was working on a UTLX X-3 tank car (not sure of the size, but the 8000 gal were the majority cars) which is probably THE essential tank car of the transition era.
That's my guess.
I also wouldn't be shocked if Tangent introduced a GATX type 30 single dome car to compliment their GATX 6000 gal Type 30 3 dome.

'70s era Bulkhead Flat would be nice, but I'd sure like an X-58 or G41. I'd take those in a HOT SECOND as well...especially if they produced Undecorated cars with them!!!

Available in the near future would be the nicest part. I don't need another announcement that next year will still be "coming soon".

Guys, if it is a "transition era" car then it is a 1950s or earlier car. That would preclude the PRR G40/41 and X58 cars that were 1960s built, and also regrettably the Magor SRR Big John covered hoppers. Eventually I'd bet we see the X58 and G41 from Bowser.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the new announcement - if transition era - to be either 1950's era SP GS beet hoppers in RTR, or as somebody said above the UTLX X-3 8K or 10K tank...
