The recent Genesis engines with Tsunami sound do not feature "full" Tsunami decoders. They are equipped with the "Athearn Tsunami", which come with considerably less different horns and other options. For example, the Genesis GP15 only comes with 3 horns, none of which is a K5LA for the Chessie/CSX versions!

They were a bit more generous with their horn options on the GP38-2s - www.soundtraxx.com/factory/OEM_pages/athearn/ath_gp38-2_ho.pdf .

For example, the Genesis GP15 only comes with 3 horns, none of which is a K5LA for the Chessie/CSX versions! So far I own no HO engines with Tsunami decoders of any kind. I did learn that the sound equipped Genesis GP9 did not have the correct horn sound for D&RGW GP9's so in that sense, my buying the non-sound GP9 dodged that bullet. Having not been present to hear the real thing, I may not have recognized right off the bat the incorrect horn on the model. So basically I have been aware for some time that the Tsunami sound equipped Genesis diesels do not come with full blown Tsunami decoders, with all the sounds of the ones you buy separately and install. The question I have is Athearn buying decoder that is stripped down further still for the SD40 or are they coming with a similar decoder as the ones used in past Genesis models? If the decoder provided is further stripped down, it will be interesting to see if the SP SD40 "won the lottery" and got lucky and has mostly correct sounds which apply to that engine. Cheers, Jim

Dave, from what is understood here is that Single Shoe Brakes are called "Single Shoe Brakes". Clasp Brakes have a Shoe on each side of the Wheel,or 2 Shoes per Wheel,4 per Axle,or Wheel Set. Disc Brakes are Axle Mounted and not used on Locos or Freight cars, no room on locos, too expensive for freight cars. Spikre

I wonder if they will be able to produce a late model SD40 (1971) version with the extended DB housings. These were on C&O, BN, UP, DE, and a few others.

From the PDF announcement, here is this comment by Athearn about the newly announced BNSF SD40's: #7309, 7316, 7327 • Long-taper extended-range dynamic brakes #7337 • Short-taper extended-range dynamic brakes Does that answer your question? Is there any pics of an Illinois central gulf?? linkIf Athearn can do a SDP45, they can do these. A model thats NEVER been done before. Just imagine how great the model would be. Tsunami sound, total IC light package. A true "Cadillac" of the rails. Give me a half dozen at least.

SD40AIC Death Star & as delivered ICG CN SOO Don't forget the CP. I did talk to Athearn at the show about the SD40A's. They did tell me that they did look into it, but it won't be any time soon for it to be done.

Hmmm Only 18 built. But Athearn has the frame and shell. They would need to tool a new walkway piece to fit them together though?
