I am definitely ordering one of the BN with sound. I love the big Alco engines and the ESU decoder has the Alco sound down to an art.

Imma wait 'till they're blown out at $79.99 each on M.B. Klein.
(I don't really need one, but would probably spring for a demo at the right price...)

Were Bowser Alcos really that cheap at MB Klein? I just checked their inventory and the lowest price I could find for a six axle unit was $134.99. I’ve been trolling eBay for a deal on a Bowser C-630, and the best price I could find was a nonsound unit for $107.00 with free shipping. If I’m missing something, please let me know.

I want a PRR fantasy version to run with my Kato SD45. The people I knew who worked with the real ones told us of gobs of TE. value, and warned of "time bomb" mechanicals.

Some were on sale at MB Klein a while back for $149.99 with sound.

LOL... I guess just like the prototypes the sales numbers aren't that high... CNs probably sell a little bit better, they had fourty-something of 'em. I'd buy more CP's, but since CP only had a grand total of 8 C630M units compared to about three dozen M630 and a good 44 M636, it would throw everything into disproportion...

CP, CN had 44 C-630Ms,but no M-630s,seems odd,but they went to the M-636 next. CP and PGE/BCR had both C-630Ms and M-630s. BCR was the only purchaser of M-630Ws. Spikre

I am definitely ordering one of the BN with sound. In a perfect world I'd buy a handful of BNs with no sound so I could model the dead line at BRC Clearing Yard circa 1980-1981...

I like the demos but they are way out of my era. I'll probably pick up a SIXX leasing sound unit if the price is right.

Don't forget to "weld" the doors shut on them. What is the story behind that? When a unit is sent to scrap many times the doors are welded shut to prevent thieves from stealing mainly wiring from the dead units. Even when a unit is stored now and is sitting on some stretch of track somewhat off the beaten path, railroads will weld the doors shut to keep the copper and metal thieves out.

For our purposes, a strip of rusty steel colored styrene glued across the cab doors will adequately represent this. I saw a few Alcos with the doors welded shut, it looked like they used a couple of sections of old angle iron.

I remember way back when the dead lines of Centuries with the hood doors banded shut at Conrail's Collinwood Shops.

the C-636 Spec designation was DL-636. according to Diesel Builders,Vol-2,Alco and MLW. a very worthwhile book that should be on everyone's shelf. maybe White River will do a Soft Cover Reprint some day ? also they could do Diesel Builders,Vol-1,Baldwin and F-M someday, missed that one in the 80s,and used prices are going up.
