Kelly,
as much as the Atlas/Katos,Stewart/Katos,and Kato/Katos are liked here,
it has been only 2 Kato powered switchers that have been sub-par.
1 - late 80s Con-Cor/Kato MP15,the motor thought it was some sort of Radiant
Heat Source.have retired the unit due to MP15s by Atlas are better in every
way.and the unit really doesn't fit in with EL/D&H themed locos.
didn't matter what speed the unit ran,it heated up quickly.
2 - Kato NW2 Chessie, runs hot on a oval of Uni-Track,but not as hot as the MP15 did.
problem 2 is getting the unit apart to see why its running hot.if the unit can
be cured may keep it and strip it,but that seems like Mission Impossible now.
and can just Force it apart, but don't like breaking parts if it can be avoided.
will also drill some air vents into the body and frame if the unit ever comes apart.
the slower the unit ran,the hotter it got.
so not sure why,but have had problems with these 2 units that road units havnt had ??
