Went up to Hobby Express on Sat. to check out the newly arrived BLI PRR H10s. They actually look pretty good...I mean better than I expected. I'd rate the overall look at about 98%. Operation with an MRC 260 series pack in conventional was really disappointing; it would take waaaay too long to get used to all the idiocyncracies in this chooch with that MO! OTOH, DCC operation was little short of spectacular! I was mucho impressed. Excellent low speed with no binds. Great sound in all areas, especially the whistle and bell. This thingie also smokes like the best of post war Lionel for those into that stuff. My only gripe was the traction tires on the rear driver. I did not notice if there was a spare included without these troublesome tires. Overall, it's good enough, that I'll have to spring. Still also want to look at Mike's when his shows up too. Should also mention that the claw markers front and rear, also light up.

No extra non tire driver included. Some have reported derailment problems backing thru turnouts. If you happen to have a BLI I-1 that you put the traction tire driver on be advised that the non traction tire driver will work on the H. PRR H 9/10 , L and I all had 62'' drivers. I had mine come with a misaligned crosshead guide so the crosshead popped loose after a few minutes of running. Put the crosshead back in place realigmed the guides and no problems since. Loco comes with no smoke fluid other than what is in loco so if it quits smoking shut off the unit or it will burn out. I turned mine off right away using the switch located under the cab. With the die cast boiler and traction tires it will pull better than the larger BLI PRR steamers !!!! I will pick up another one when the second run with a different tender comes out early next year. A good running loco. ----- Ken

22 NMRA weight cars up a 2.5% grade, through a couple of helixes also, and didn't break a sweat. A friend bought two of them, and is he ever happy with them! Now, if BLI would make us a nice SP 2-8-0...........

I saw one tonight and tested it on our set up. It pulled extremely well for it's size due to the traction tire. It ran smooth and even, forward and back. The real surprise to me are the lighted class and marker lights, front and rear. That was very neatly done.
I didn't get to see it or try it on the regular layout, only the programming track. But so far, it looks good.

My H10 was delivered yesterday. Fantastic! I put it on the layout, and ran it around the (DCC) layout, through places where the I1 won't go. Beautiful, steady slow speed performance. Ran backwards to my yard, retracing the route. Again no problems until I returned to my yard, and attempted to couple to a draft of cars. The locomotive would not respond to the throttle, I had to cut off power to stop it. Ultimately I had to use cv8 to restore it to default. Runs fine now. I will probably get another with the Lines East tender, when they come out.

I want a low side tender, Lines Eastie....with a modernized front end. Ho joy ! Might even get one for the Brownhoist ballast cleaner train.

The fact that they included LEDs in the marker lights without making them overscale is impressive enough. The engine runs great at low speed & pulls pretty well - Even by Cutler's standards ! (He was talking about my engine in his description)

Now there's a H-Tenner with a shortie Hippo tank ! Not my first choice for the second chooch, but not bad. Will have to add this lil feller to the fold as well.

Anyone have a problem with their H10 lighting? My tender back up light is twice as bright as the headlight. And the headlight is pretty dim...even in the running mode. The brightness CV won't help as it affects both front and back simultaneously. Any thoughts or ideas. Really not crazy about sending this chooch to FL. for a couple of months for repairs ! !

I've only had mine on my test track and it is indeed a very smooth runner. I'm not wildly impressed with the Paragon 2 decoder as a rule and no exception with the H10. I can't get any of the individual sound volumes to change...the air pump and injector are very loud. The master control works; the individual ones don't. Wondering how much headache it would be to swap out for a Tsunami or TCS WOW decoder...

He says he's very happy with it. I've listened to it, and watched it run, and it is better than the P2, though I'm not sure it is "gooder" enough to warrant the money and time involved to replace it. His P2 decoder had bit the dust, so for him it made sense.

If I replace any BLI sound decoder I will use the TCS Wow sound. I had TSU's in a Sunset I-1 and a Westside M . I could not get either to run nas nice on dcc as they did on dc back before they had decoders in them. Another PRR modeler near here put a TCS in one of his BLI PRR M-1a's It was a big difference in motor control. Enough that I went out and purchased one and replaced the TSU in the Sunset PRR I-1 . Amazed at how much better it ran. I have a number of the BLI M's and I's and if any need a new decoder they will get a Wow . The H-10 runs fine as far as I am concerned . When the next run appears another one will be on the roster. ------------------ Ken
