I really like the new Atlas units. I bought two from modeltrainstuff.com just before they sold out. The new packaging is great too. Model is secure in a plastic shell very similar to Athearn. I will probably get them road ready this coming week.

Let me know how they pull. They redid the motor and drive on these and they don't seem to pull as much as the old ones.. Maybe its just me. Rob Gruber www.dcctrain.com

I can't believe they're screwed into the box. I just don't see how ANYONE could still do that after the Athearn FP45/F45/SD60M disaster of engines being screwed into the boxes.

The models run very much like previous Dash 8 runs. Here is a video I took. We still have units available.

Bowser is doing it now on their Century line (at least, on the second recent run of C630's). Two screws go into the fuel tank from a profiled plastic base that's part of the bottom packaging. Unit cannot move forward or backward to sustain damage, works good. Two plugs are included to plug the bottom of the fuel tanks when the screws are removed. Let me know how they pull. They redid the motor and drive on these and they don't seem to pull as much as the old ones.. Maybe its just me. Rob Gruber www.dcctrain.comThat'd be the new Mabuchi-clone motor the Bowser/IMRC/Atlas factory is using. It's been reported before those motors are a bit on the gutless side. Personal experience has suggested the same thing.

The first run of C630M's (released 2011?) did not have screws securing the packaging to the fuel tank, and I presume other releases of the C628 & C630 around then didn't either. The second C630M run however do (released 2012-2013?), and I'd bet that most of their other recent new releases have them. PS: Bowser has yet to do an M630, they've only done a C630M.

Rob Gruber www.dcctrain.com www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,3536890 Skip down to about halfway and read one posters report about tests he performed with a couple of older run units against a couple of the new motor units. Guess maybe I wasn't so wrong about these cheapo motors. Dave

I must have gotten lucky with the rs3 I bought because I feel that lonesome MRC that only bought one sound decoder and it was the "only" one done right out of 100k
Lol the latter part is sarcasm cause my first mrc the motor drive died the first lap on my track then poof!!
I just hope/wish atlas never changed from the kato look alike cause those were tanks and almost better than a kato hm-5...

The new Atlas C424's have the new motor too. I had recently acquired one of the old ones as a project loco to sell, but I think I'm going to keep it over buying any of the new ones since it has the "good" Atlas motor in it.

What you throwing away. The motors? Engine?? I might have use for them... One is in a couple hundred pieces the other is still new in box. I will use the parts for the older Atlas units. It was one of those simple projects that just went bad from the begin resulting a total write off. I will look it over but the new motors are about half the size of the older ones. Don't know if I will buy a replacement. I'm pretty PO'ed I destroyed the entire engine but I guess things happen that way sometimes.

My buddy and i were discussing about Kato-izing them but removing the fly wheels from the new atlas and adding them to the kato motor.. Haven't gotten that far, but now i think we have found some older motors/drives. Thanks Rob Gruber www.dcctrain.com

I haven't checked if the frame is the same as the old one allowing you to use the same mounting as the old one. I've pretty much decided to look for a couple 8-40C standard cabs with UP paint and yellow frame stripe. I'll go after the older ones. You make be able to mount the newer shells on the older mechanism. Why must they make the shell so difficult to remove and put back on? Not at all like Kato, Athearn etc.
