When I stripped the primer off the model where I had worked on blanking the porthole windows, some of the filler left the building too! So it is time to re work the blanked porthole windows so hopefully I can wash this and shoot the primer on the whole shell! Before: After:

Okay now that you've feasted on John's (Onequiknova) E8. You get to see how us less talented folks live. This is my original pilot for the 9925 Its wrong.....and I broke it accidentally! Here is a good side shot of the real 9925 The front truck was hitting the end of the pilot. I figured the reason was I had it too back. When I tried to correct the original pilot I snapped like a twig. Here is the new pilot, which I hopefully will not snap and does easily clear the front truck and has the right look and contour. I also did the side louvers with Archer decals. I like the Archer products.

It's looking nice to me Jim.
I vaugly remember you saying the number boards on the BLI were off. Care to elaberate? Scaling the height off of pictures and comparing photo's of the width, they look good to me dimensionally. The gasket and glass could be better executed. The Proto's OTOH look way off.

Scaling the height off of pictures and comparing photo's of the width, they look good to me dimensionally. The gasket and glass could be better executed. The Proto's OTOH look way off. Look at the photo of BN 9925. You'll see the edge of the number board is about even with the end of the anti-climber. Now look at my model, the edge of the number board is forward of the end of the anti-climber. Also, look at the size of the number board on 9925, the BLI model looks under sized in height. Maybe its BLI's "gasket", but the placement of the number board doesn't jive with the end of the anti-climber. As Bill Murray said in the movie "Stripes" - "Dat's dee fact Jack!"

Good call on the position related to the anticlimber. I think the shelf inside the BLI numberboard is throwing the eye off. Like I said, the height scales right with a couple of head on shots I printed out. Now I wonder if the number board is to short width wise, or if it's moved toward the center of the nose.
I designed an etch for the gasket in the event I do another Highliner E8 without the 45* number boards. Looks like I may need to rework the etch. I guess I need to bring a tape measure next time I go to IRM. Should be a couple E units outside to compare.

Gettin' close. I like the exhaust mufflers. Nobody else has come up with a good method for modeling them.

the first pic, is the front pilot glued on or just rested on? looks like its bulging on engineers side. Other than that, outstanding work once again. Anyway you can line up all your E8's you've made?

Looking good!
I take it you're using the discontinued MicroScale decals for this?
Who's green are you going to use?

Looking good! I take it you're using the discontinued MicroScale decals for this? Who's green are you going to use? I have three or four sets of the BN commuter decals from Microscale. The green and black will be Scalecoat II. I've always like Scalecoat's attempt at BN green. BN green is one of those colors that could or is different between units. When it weathered it darkened and looked bluer. When it was fresh it was lighter with no hint of blue.

Looks like we both did some painting today. I painted TWO on Saturday.....how 'bout you? Would have been THREE, but USPS is trying real hard to loose my Plano Models E-unit grilles. The box was last seen Appleton, Wisconsin. Looks like USPS is going to have to put my package on the side of milk cartons.....

I didn't expect masking that scheme to be such a pain.

Trust me the hockey sticks on the side of the BN unit were no walk in the park either. I've always like the swoosh on the BN passenger diesels E's and F's. Now that I've masked one, I'm beginning to think masking the bloody nose on SP units is nearly easier! The CNW Bicentennial didn't kick my fat behind like this E9!

How did you mask? In one large piece, or?
I have taken what I learned in auto body custom painting and apply it to my models. I use a very thin strip of masking tape and free hand the curves and angles right on the model, then I come back and fill in with more masking tape. It won't work for all paint schemes, but might work pretty well on that BN scheme.

The free lancing of that curve in the hockey stick isn't that easy. I worked and worked the tape. Finally I got out the drafting tools and made a template for the curve and the angle. I don't I'm perfectly symmetrical on both sides, but its good enough or I'd be in the loony bin today.

I just realized it looked super-Tyco before you got the black on it. Interesting how much of a difference the black makes to the overall appearance. Can't wait to see it back on the chassis.
