I'm hoping to get all the announcements from Amherst wrapped into one thread.
Here is what I've seen so far:
Athearn -- GP7/GP9 Family (Technically revealed on their page Facebook a couple of days ahead of Amherst)
Rapido -- RDC
Tangent -- X58 Class Box Car.
Everyone feel free to add to the list if I'm missing stuff. Luckily this year seems pretty quiet in general and for my personal modeling tastes. My wallet needs a breather anyway, it's been putting out more than a prostitute at a political convention.

Did Kadee announce a new freight car? They're supposed to have something in the pipeline...
Thanks for the info!

Exactrail on their Facebook page shows new FMC 5327 box cars in 5 paint schemes & HO Bethlehem 3737/3716 hoppers in 4 new paint schemes. Can someone put a bug in their ear for a ACF 4600, ACF 4460, and ACF 5250 covered hopper please.

Can someone post a link to the FB page with the Exactrail announcement? Nothing about it is on their website and I don’t have an FB account. Also curious too about Kadee. Mark

Not sure if you need a Facebook account to click through for ExactRail's photo. So far this is it. "Coming soon from #ExactRail. All new HO FMC 5327 box cars in 5 paint schemes & HO Bethlehem 3737/3716 hoppers in 4 new paint schemes."

Has the 5327 been done before? It looks familiar like something Athearn has made.

Anything on the tank car that Athearn was hinting about on FB? or is it just vapoware again? It seems many observers inferred from a single photo of a roller bearing truck under a tank car that Athearn was working on such a car. Athearn's FB post didn't mention a thing about the photo having any relationship to a future release, simply adding a caption, "This must be a Genesis model, as it has rotating bearing caps on the trucks! - CW. "Here's a link to the photo Athearn used: www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=510636 . Note that the photographer, Craig Walker, works for Athearn in product development per Athearn's site. Maybe he just thought the photo was interesting.

Has the 5327 been done before? It looks familiar like something Athearn has made. Yup. MDC had a kit of this car, which Athearn upgraded and sold with their RTR line. The ExactRail car even looks to have a couple of the same paint schemes www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=50%27+FMC+Plug+Box+RTR&CatID=THRF&OA=True . Athearn also had the former MDC ABOX combination door car, and ExactRail already tooled their own far superior version of that.

Yes, MDC/Athearn plug door boxcar is similar/based on the FMC 5327... It, and the MDC ABOX, was $3.98 retail and $3 street price when first released about 30 years ago. Given inflation, that $3 in early 1980s is now about $7. I bought some of the Athearn RTR ones last year for $12. We'll see how the ER price compares to those.
Any car tooled today BETTER be significantly better than those of 30 years ago, because the pricing is going to be multiple times higher even with inflation factored in.

What ever happened to Overland? Did Brian show for this event? Where's my NW5's? ? Ed Everything from Overland has no scheduled due date. Everything was changed to "TBD" for delivery dates last fall. Also, Brian was not at the show. I just spoke to him and he had no plans of attending.

Some observations from the show:
Walthers announced that they'll be doing the SD70ACe in their Mainline.
Athearn had decorated samples of the forthcoming UP flared SD70Ms (no NS), which looked really good.
The Rapido FL-9 and F40 both look spectacular.

Some observations from the show: Walthers announced that they'll be doing the SD70ACe in their Mainline. Wow, there will be plenty of choices on the SD70ACe. What's the running total right now: Athearn Bachmann MTH OMI Walthers Lots of options from most budget friendly to most expensive.

I spoke with Sam ("the Answer Man") at Kadee's display today. He confirmed that they're working on a new car, didn't give any hint as to what it was, and said they'd be having problems getting some parts. I said at least they don't have problems with production in China; he replied that that was right -- they just go into the other room.
Tangent's PRR X58 boxcar is predictably beautiful.

Oh boy! A new Kadee car! What will it be, another variant of 1950's 40' or 50' PS boxcar, or another variant of the 1950's sand covered hopper? Oh wait, maybe they'll venture way out to a 1950's flat car or tank car...
It would be nice if "American made" referred to anything a modern modeler could use or want... so come on Kadee, get with the modern program and give us a model of a prototype car built at least after 1975!

Tangent's PRR X58 boxcar is predictably beautiful. Yes, it is. My pocketbook is having to deal with my purchase of three of them. I'll get more if they release an earlier PC version; the Tangent rep said they're having trouble finding pictures of an early PC X58 so who knows if these will be produced. I'm not sure how much difference there would be, anyway. This would be a good fleet car for my 1968 layout, though at $44 a pop this could get expensive.

Kadee will make a 50 foot PS boxcar with new ends and doors. As for Walthers, I hope they do better than Bachmann did.
