So, I took on some northern power by reviewing the Rapido F40PH-2D. But as my viewers told me, I fudged up the pronunciation of Via. Oh well, I need to get up to Canada and learn more one of these days, in the mean time I can fix the pronunciation issue.

As long as the check clears pronunciation is fine.

I notice some of your bench work is plywood and others looks like OSB and 1 x lumber ?
The engine looks great. On the real ones I always just heard them running like a banshee due to the HEPower needs.
Rapido needs to do an SD40-2. It would be nice for sure !

As an ardent passenger modeler I absolutely love my VIA Rapido F40 units. I've had them for a while and have really put them through the paces and they've done great. I also think the instruction book does a great, funny, and entertaining job. I have only had two issues. One unit the rear drive shaft had somehow come out during factory assembly or transit. Thanks to the great instructions I was able to take the shell off, disassemble to unit to reinstall the drive shaft and it has run perfectly since then. Another unit had a ditchlight burn out. It had worked just fine and then would not work. I've yet to repair it as it looks cumbersome to remove so it's been the trailing unit for some time. I hope Rapido will consider re-runs of some of the Budd cars as I've seen them going for crazy prices on Ebay. I'm looking forward to the Amtrak units!

Nice review. I haven't run mine yet but did take it out of the box to admire the paint and details. I like how you show the slow and smooth operating performance. Super impressive loco inside and out.

The Canada F40PH-2D looks very nice. If I were a Canadian, it would be a must have. This should be a preview for the US Amtrak version coming.

Great review, that basically covers how I feel about my two. The only thing I really don't like is the box. It's to pretty to get stored away with the rest of my empty boxes, lol.

How do you pronounce VIA? I've always pronounced it Vee-ah. I grew up Midwestern. Rhymes with EYE-yuh. I heard the Vee-uh living in Texas.

Thanks for the detailed review, James. Everyone please spread the word that the Amtrak engines will be just as sweet, so people should order by the May 15th deadline: www.rapidotrains.com/f40amt1.htmlWe just got a request for a bunch more FL9s from one of our US distributors and we had to turn them down. The factory had already ordered all of the materials for production, and the order wasn't big enough to justify the extra costs. -Jason

It is a shame that the extra orders can not be produced at this late time. The new F40PH-2D does look nice!!!! The LOK sound has one of the best drives for the motor, but I believe there are better motor and horn sounds available. Any thoughts on the sound? Larry

You will have to look and not wait but it isn't impossible to get one when they come out.
