And more SD40T-2's - I could be tempted but I've probably got more than I can use now as it is! Run!

...and SP&S Challengers oh my! Quite the surprise, there. A totally welcome one around here, though. Of course, there's two versions of this Challenger: the as-delivered (as shown in the photo) and the later. Room for both, here! Ed

I wonder what all they changed to make the U50 a Genesis model, since the last run was RTR. Not that I ever understood why they didn't make the first run Genesis to begin with.

Both open and closed cab versions as well as coal or oil tenders. I thought Athearn would continue to just pump out UP versions, but could a GN version, later handed down to SP&S be far behind?

I wonder what all they changed to make the U50 a Genesis model, since the last run was RTR. Not that I ever understood why they didn't make the first run Genesis to begin with. The U50 and Turbine were projects done completely outside of Athearn. They contracted them out, which is why nothing about them mechanically was Athearn. Dave

SP announcements get my attentiont too, afterall, I was an SP fan before I discovered the Rio Grande and since all the nice SP stuff started coming out, my fleet has gotten a lot more SP in it!

No love for the Northern Pacific version? Love? Yes. Need? No. I think that's just filler transferred over from the UP version. The Z-8 cabs were all closed cab--none open. Nope. No GN version. That would be the Z-6's. This here's a Z-8. Ed

Tunnel motors are nice engines. Tempting as these were all over Cajon Pass.
$550 for a non sound Big Boy made me look twice.......

NP A-3 Northerns would also make SP&S people happy. And would likely get them a model of SP&S 700: Ed

They could probably release Tunnel Motors in new SP numbers every 6 months, and still probably sell-out. Same with the Chessie GP40-2s. Both are items I look forward to!

Oh NO! The dreaded PC worm is directing me to purchase my second PC diesel. NO! Please NO!
It appears his wormness thinks my PC C-430 would look rather nice trailing a B-unit. And that of course will likely force still another (completely unknown) PC unit sometime later.
But, don't worry. I'll survive. Luckily, I've already got an appropriate caboose.

Ed I wonder how they would look behind the black FL9? Saves my having to renumber a "B" unit from the first (PRR pre 1966) run, and they will work fine with my post 1966 PRR Genesis geeps. The "new" layout is going to be early PC.

I notice late phase 48" fans on a couple of the GP9s, and steam generator equipment as well. Lots of possibilities there.

Nice, some more low number Rio Grande Tunnel Motors! I only got one of the numbers from the last run; I too prefer the lower numbers, and four announced this time. Next year there will be a total of 6 numbers the 534x series (5341,42,43,47,48,49)

I have 3 high numbered units I may peddle off after these arrive, they fit my era much better, if nothing else I won't put any time into them just yet! I really don't need many more loco's so this would just be to suit the time period.

I model the 80's too so the high numbers are ok, but it does require more models to cover a wider time frame.
Mark, do you have any of the P2K GP30's? Those were all very much in use in the 70's.
Mr. Mike could use D&RGW SD40T-2's from the next run too, they were delivered in 1974.

What is the time sequence of the number high or low? On Cajon the SP motors were so beat and dirty seeing numbers was often no easy.

Ahem. Not to mention these little beauties: Oooooooh...pretty... Please note these Athearn models will have the unique to New Haven extra water tanks on the running board behind the cab. This also means they have a different handrail shape...again, totally unique to the New Haven. This will be the most "NH" GP9 ever made (outside of brass...if they even made any), and I can't wait to see them!

SNIP Mr. Mike could use D&RGW SD40T-2's from the next run too, they were delivered in 1974. Well, I could, but that would blow my already limited budget for Blackstone Ks The Tunnel Motors remain very attractive. Just a trio is hardly a start on a fleet, but another trio would be sweet. I need to get over this student thing...

Jim, I have 7 P2K GP30's along with the same number of new Kato GP35 chassis as replacements, they need to perform flawlessly with the all the road units so this is the best course to take with them..........No doubt a Genesis '30 will be announced right after I finish the project.

wow, surprised another run of susquehanna tunnel motors. Guess they sell pretty good. Might be tempted to get one with all the new details to replace the one with little detail from 2007.

Cost is a big factor for me too, especially with a daughter in college, and with the SP SD40R's hitting the market ahead of them, I'm going to have to try to brace myself! Maybe sell a few more trains - that are too new/late. Mark, so hurry up and get those P2K Gp30's converted so Athearn can announce the Genesis GP30's! I have 7 as well, but don't have KATO chassis for them at this point, and of course the nose light .... Genesis units would solve that problem.

I'm not too worried about a SD40-2 delaying Athearn, what with all the many companies (Athearn RTR, KATO, Intermountain, BLI) already making them. Let the debate begin anew...

atsfan, Yeah, we NH fans will be pretty much broke this year and the next: BLI I-4 4-6-2's, Rapido FL9's, 8600 coaches, and RDC-1's, and now Athearn GP9's. It's a great time to be a NH fan!
