Al, in the 80s Ford computers would catch fire and wipe out a whole rack full of new cars. maybe You can come up with a way to model that someday ? glad those racks are out of the time range here, but do wonder how EL would have lettered/decorated them ? no sound or DCC on these, the Prototypes are rather niosey when moving. Spikre Ford's? I've been driving Fords for over 35 years and have never heard of that. Chrysler products with their Lean-Burn, however... I remember riding with my dad to the '79 EBT Winter Spectacular and seeing an entire hauler loaded with new Chrysler products roasting away on the Ohio Turnpike near Lordstown...

He's saying some kind of short in the car as it's being delivered would lead to a fire that apparently spread to the entire rack. Maybe if it was a bottom level car, but that seems hard to believe.
Have said this before but I don't understand how some of these guys make any money selling this stuff. 10% or so over cost on a site that takes 10% or so of your total sale in fees. Why bother?

a friend worked for Southern/NS in the 80s on the DeeeCeee to Atlanta main. Ford kept this VERY Quiet,it wasn't all Ford Computers, only some that wouldn't shut down, and then overheated. this caused an underhood fire, not all cars would catch fire on the Rack, but ALL cars on a Fire Rack would be Scrapped. this Glitch was cured by 1990,so when the Fire happened replacement cars would be built for Ordered cars. find a retired TTX Employee and they should Confirm this. The only fire story i heard was that Ford had a faulty design in the cruise control switch. The switch was left to be powered all the time. So if the interface with brake fuild inside the switch leaked if could cause a fire. Sometimes days since the last time the car was used and parked in the garage etc. Cars dated from 1996 to 2010 were involved.

guess the Ford "LID" on the 80s "Flaming Ford" problem was very successful,as none here ever heard of it. maybe Bill Elliot wasn't the only owner of a really hot 80s T-Bird ? alcoc430, have You ever tried to burn Brake Fliud ? it isn't easy, takes very hi-heat to get it going. which makes me wonder why Brake Fluid would even be inside a Cruise Control unit ? maybe some sort of grease ? any way cant recall any other mentions of this use of brake fluid any where else, or by any other car or heavy machinery makers.
