Did I miss the boat? I thought I saw them on MTS just a few days ago. Now gone. Athearn site stills shows them June 2015. Did they arrive or not?

I'm not sure why they show the June delivery dates on Athearns website, unless they are coming in two batches. Model Train Stuff had a bunch in stock on Thursday; early in the day there were quite a few and I check around 5 and they were down to just a few and those are gone now.

So what are the final costs to the US with shipping, tarrifs and whatever gets added on between Canada and my door step in the US? I've heard some folks get hit with some substantial costs coming from the great white north.

Scotty,
Those Accurail look great - very nice. I like the ones with the side panels and need to get some for that transition era - I hope Athearn offers their F89F with side panels in the future too. I've got five Accurail's in my fleet and may add a few more, to go with the Genesis rack I ordered. Personally I think the 1970-1985 period could use more autoracks now that the 1965 - 1975 and 1989+ periods seem to be well covered now.

On average, shipping costs are usually between $10 and $15 - far west coast slightly higher. Unless you are spending hundreds of dollars, there should be no additional taxes or duties, it will just show up at your door. Mark.

What did you use for the posts and the safety wires on those Accurail racks?

Those racks look awesome. The diecast bugs must make for a heavy load.
Will At earn be offering a tri-level as well? My shrunken 1/64 cars could make a nice load.

They are pretty nice models, I haven't done anything with mine yet other than test run them on my buddy's layout. It's a different prototype than the Accurail car. I'm going to use some Trident Suburbans on my two, representing built up westbound loads delivered from the Mopac. The Wasbash car is stunning The Frisco car is interesting too, it has a '63 built date on it so likely it was delivered in TT red and repainted to solid yellow along with cots and U-1 stencils.

I have a note that Trail Train changed to yellow in 1970. Anyone know what month and what order was first to be delivered in yellow?

What did you use for the posts and the safety wires on those Accurail racks? I used sewing needles for the post and a strand of fine copper wire that I pulled from an old headset cable. Using the needles I was able to loop the wire through each eye and glue for a more stable hold.

Most of my modeling interests are 70's and later which is why my first pick was the N&W rack with the yellow TT flat car, although if I can swing it, I may add one of the others later - I'm just on a very tight budget right now. While I generally prefer flats with the TT yellow scheme because of the post 1970 period when it was introduced, I do have some brown TT flat cars or autoracks using the brown TT flat cars as that version would have lasted for some years before fading away.

I decided to take a look at ordering from Action - turns out shipping is a little over $18 to Virginia and there was fine print about actual costs being a higher in Canadian currency and something about exchange rates etc. etc. So I don't actually know what is going to be on my credit card in the end; the total "appears" to be within a couple dollars of some of a couple US vendors I use which have slightly higher unit prices but lower shipping costs so it seems safest to just go with a known quantity. I have emailed Action Hobbies for some information, but so far no reply. I guess I could try it and see but it's the unknown part I don't like or surprises. Usually when ordering from US vendors, whatever they show on the bottom line is exactly what you are charged, no funky exchange rates, no surprises.

James, isn't the Canadian dollar still losing value to the U.S. dollar ? that should mean less shipping in a correct universe. but this is the Model RR Universe where Normal doesn't always apply ! Spikre

Bob, frankly I haven't followed the CAN currency value good or bad. Mainly, like anyone, I just want to know what something is going to cost me when I hit the check out stand - not a "mystery price" if you get my drift. When I see fine print about conversions - it gets kinda fuzzy and I then think hey... so whats it really cost? More? Less? Dunno!?!
Edit: looks like you just have to know about what the exchange rate is and you'll be able to estimate fairly closely but not exactly. Them are the joys of buying across the border!

If I'm not mistaken, if you make your purchase using the US Dollar value, you will be charged that amount on your credit card. If you check out using the Canadian dollar value, you will be charged that amount in Canadian dollars and your credit card company adjusts the currency exchange.
If you want to do the calculations yourself, you may even save yourself even more. If your credit card company converts the dollar at a slightly different rate than the conversion on the site, use whichever one works in your favor.
I've found when crossing the border and needing to purchase some US cash, I found it was cheaper to just put all my purchases on my credit card as opposed to going to the bank and getting cash. The credit card company's exchange rate was slightly more in my favor than the bank's rate to buy the cash !
Mark.

We'll probably give it a try and see how it goes. It does show the purchase in USD if you toggle it but the fine print shows the CAD also and says something about exchange rates so there is that uncertainty. Only way is to try it.

Re the F89's, I had the chance to run mine on my buddy's layout last night, they do seem to ride a bit high so I'll be looking at lowering them when I replace the plastic couplers.........
