If you didn't see their latest newsletter, there's another picture with the caption "Could this be Rapido's new product?" I'm guessing it's a "definitive F3/F7". Because they were all the same, and it will prevent Jason & co. from dealing with 36 different molds (plus detail parts ). Just kidding. But seriously, I have no idea what it is. It may not even be the cutout in the photo, as the caption clearly said "Could...?" Lastly, a question on tone about the via car they bought. I thought it was very defensive (too much so as it left a bad taste in my mouth) but also what sort of person tells a guy he shouldn't buy a train car. If you're spending a crap ton of money on model trains, do you really have the right to tell someone else that they can't spend a crap ton of money on trains? Cabooses can cost in the order of magnitude of $20,000 for one that's nearly rail ready. For a car as dilapidated as Jason's, I can't see the price being completely out of that range. I think it's pretty cool, personally. If that means the single F40 I can afford costs an additional $25, so be it. I'm not naive enough to think this hobby - at Rapido's level of detail - is cheap.

Probably something Canadian so I'll watch from the sidelines!

Yeah, "could" was certainly one of two key words I noticed. The other was 'bigger.' Bigger than the Canadian? Makes me wonder if Rapido is branching out into O-scale...

It looks like an SD40-2.
Good news and Rapido will sell many of them

How about an EMD E8 / E9...one with fewer troubles than the bunch of clunkers we have now !

jaygee, there were exactly ZERO E9s purchased by Canadian roads. and only CP bought 3 E8s to match the B&M E units in Pool service between Montreal and Boston. but a 99% correct E8 would be an achievement. Spikre

The vertical side on the nose looks like an Alco cab unit to me, but they already have the FPA/B4 and I don't feel like another Alco cab would be "the largest new product announcement in Canadian model railroad history"

Are you all convinced that the biggest announcement ever is going to be a group of Canadian locomotives? And in HO scale?
We do know that Rapido is working on an HO freight car with rivets. Any guesses about that?
My railroad is supposed to be set in upstate New York, but I have a soft spot for Canadian railways. My roster of Rapido items so far includes 2 locos (both Canadian National in the 1954 livery), 22 passenger cars (11 CN 1954 livery, 1 CN 1961, 7 Delaware & Hudson, 1 Boston & Maine, 1 CP, 1 Erie Lackawanna), and 11 freight cars (6 U.S. meat reefers and 4 Canadian gons), plus 1 CP Rail caboose, with another D&H passenger car on order.

Maybe they're doing the "definitive HO baggage wagon". Because, you know, the Grandt Line one just blows.

It's a Rohr Turboliner being towed by an F- or E-unit after one of its flameouts (or perhaps I should say "flame-ups").

Are you all convinced that the biggest announcement ever is going to be a group of Canadian locomotives? And in HO scale? Are you suggesting it might be another 1:1 scale type of deal, to pull the 1:1 scale passenger car? :-o

Spikre The 3 Canadian Pacific E-8s came with an A-200 horn on the engineer's side and an A-125 horn on the Fireman's side. These single chime horns got replaced with M-5 horns mounted on the Fireman's side like the the covered up photo.I have seen photos of an M-3 horn on one of the E 8's also. The horn in the covered up photo is a M-5 as the 5 chime horn stands taller as 2 horn bells are mounted on the top of the manifold.

Jason, some people seem to be in this hobby just so they can kvetch. How a private individual spends their honestly acquired gains is no one else's business but theirs. Remember, don't feed the troll...

The EMD casts a more rounded shadow. Jason, you have to give us more clues or we will think it is a SD40-2 covered up to look like an ALCO. Larry

I agree some dudes need more fresh air out of the basement. And time with real trains. Or for some, a bar of soap. Let alone a lady.
I enjoyed a round of golf today and watched the US Open at the 19th hole. And guess what? Real trains were coming by Chambers Bay and they were showing them. Awesome !

Sure looks like an E8 profile to me. I suppose and E8 could be a major under taking if you include all the various road specific modifications and details.

Please, no E8! I spent too much time getting all the parts together to do my definitive Highlinerized BLI E8s... At least give me the satisfaction of finishing mine before releasing a better model.
