Some pics from my visit ti the National Train Show in Portland, OR. 3 bay 4300 cf covered hoppers from Pacific Western Rail Systems, they're a NSC prototype Walters had a lot of their new SD70s, the UP one had the best light on it (which still wasn't that good!) Being a show display it's been handled a lot, I thought the handrails were pretty nice. Some Fox Vallet GP60s And a couple Fox Valley cars Intermountain's GP Some of Rapido's FL9s, nice to shake Jason's hand too! Love the Cuban GMD1! Some FA's And the Amtrak F40 BLMA's ATSF 60' double door car, these are due very soon. BLMA's new hopper, due around the end of the year. Some of Rivarossi's new U Boats. Bowser's SD40-2 is a really nice! It sits low on it trucks (it has the traction motor!) really nice looking deck tread too. The sample CP ones looked sharp! The ON one was very cool too. Bowser also announced a GMD SD40-2F for next year. A couple of Atlas' new cars that I'll be picking up! Now in HO scale Wheels of Time will be making this 62' 70 ton Bulkhead flat - YAY! It's a Gunderson car, SP class F-70-43 Where all the excitement was......The guys from Tangent, and just behind them Nick Molo of Moloco and Dave Hussey of Cannon & Co. I had the chance to chat with them all - They're great guys! I spent way too money, buying 3 of Nick's cars including one of very few samples of the General American 50' RBL in MODX with Wabash and MoPac heralds.

I missed it! Sorry, honestly, it was a bit overwhelming! I met up with people I hadn't seen in years, including Rick Selby and Brian Rutherford.

The red stripe on the F40 looks too orange to me. Does it look orange in real life, or is it just the photo?

Here's some shots from the Athearn booth...These are prototypes, some things will change on them. One of Central Valley's double track bridges built up - fantastic! Here are the Moloco cars I picked up, the GM&O car was assigned to Pabst Brewing, it was a pleasure to meet Nick!

Thanks a lot for posting the photos - looks like a lot of great new products coming out. I think the color of the BLMA ATSF repaints look better, but it's hard to tell under train show lighting conditions. They mentioned when they posted the test sample photos that the color would be adjusted later. Great to see SP modelers finally getting an accurate bulkhead flat car. I shot what I believe is one of the MOW versions in Texas in 2009, so they definitely had some longevity (if this is the same car): SP 508693Dave

I work in the lighting industry and while the venue was certainly bright enough the fixtures used are High Bays - which work fine for a warehouse but they don't reproduce color very well, especially reds. The Rapido F40 and the BLMA ATSF cars looked fine in person, I shot these with my iphone no flash.

I can't wait to get those BLMA beer cars in my hands. They look great.
The Bowser SD40-2 looks great, too. I'm very excited about the cowl version.
Thanks for the photo report!

Thanks for the photos! What did you think about the Intermountain GP10? Has anyone seen any close-up photos of the unit yet?

Thanks for the photos! What did you think about the Intermountain GP10? Has anyone seen any close-up photos of the unit yet? Personally I wasn't that impressed with it, they had one running around a loop of track in gray plastic. The head light was over the top way too bright, the entire cab glowed and the engine had a rather waxy, translucent look to it. It was easy to tell that it rides far too high off of it's trucks. Not a good shot, which is why I didn't post it originally. It does look better here, but as you can see it rides way high.

Wow...all this time...for that GP10...and whaaaaaaaaa? It's not going to have a problem going through your lake areas on your respective layouts...
The shell looks like it was 3D printed...to me, anyway.
Glad I didn't order any.

Thanks for the pics, Tbird!
I really didn't expect to see BLMA's new hoppers till this time next year. From what I can see, it looks really good! I'll be getting several.

I showed up at 11 and the line to get in was unbelievable . The MTH "Yellowstones" were beautiful. The only thing that caught my eye at Athearn was the Amtak Heratage unit. And my shot of the IM GP10 Now the fun part... Per prototype practice, I was finally rewarded for the use of my AV paint scheme. Since the MR&T scheme will be in production soon, Rob at Atlas and I agreed on the grand sum of 1 penny which I gladly accepted. It was a kick to meet the gang over at MR. Cody got a kick hearing about the 30 year saga first hand. I had one of my AV units with me, and Cody did one better than Rob. Cody paid me 1 dollar for "royalties" . This case is now closed. JL

That crowd at Portland looks more like what I would expect. Last year on the Saturday in Cleveland there were maybe 20 in line 15 minutes before the show opened. Maybe having the show much later in the summer also helped.
PS. I hope Bowser puts the snow shields on their ON SD40-2s. IM failed to.

I will have to grab one of the F150's when they come out . Drove one back in my collage years down in Mississippi. Back to the show...The place was packed. If you wanted to see everything and meet everybody, it could take two days.
Rapido...Talked to Jason and he did say that they were going to do the American version of the GMD1. The first samples of the RDC's were on display and they look fantastic. Everything looked fantastic.
BLMA...The beer cars looked great. But WOW...The searchlight signals were unreal. Especially the tiny little dwarf signal.
Walthers..Sorry, but I forgot to ask about the Fallen Flag series. The new SD70's looked real nice. I think they will do real well with these. They look perfect for someone who will want a good runner with out all the detail.
Woodland Scenics... I could get hooked on their new lighting system. I could finally get rid of the spaghetti bowl under my layout.
More to come..

What's going on with the windshields on the Walthers SD70Ace? They look massive.
