All - I recall seeing a picture of a Cotton Belt boxcar that, if I recall correctly, had a picture of a woman's face and hand in a velvet glove. The service was either called velvet glove or velvet touch. I can't seem to find the reference, period or boxcar details and would like to model one. Quick search, no decals. Help appreciated.

?? was that car actually an In Service car ? or just an Advertising one off car ? RRs did a lot of Advertising cars that never actually entered regular service. some did haul a publicized load out of a new shippers siding, but most didn't. Spikre

If you can remember any other details it would help- Steel boxcar or wood? 40 foot car? I have a friend that's an SP fan, I'll check with him and see if he's heard of them.

this was likely an "IT" car. in all the years of looking at freight car pics cant recall ever seeing this car. this would be like the ERIE "1st in Freight" 40' boxcar. only 1 was painted for the 1949 Centennial train, but was Re-Painted before being put in service at the end of that gig. Spikre

I seem to remember an ad in an ancient issue of Trains (early to mid-Fifties) with a Pullman-Standard ad that showed a woman wearing white gloves and had something to the efect of "giving a soft touch to freight". Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

how about the "Miss Katy" ads in Trains in the mid to late 60s ? Miss Katy was dressed in short coveralls while pushing an Athearn 50' plug door boxcar lettered for Katy. Spikre

You might have trouble telling it from the posted photo, but the Susie-Q boxcars were dark green, with the multicolor figure, and black ends. Bev-Bel and possibly others lettered standard Athearn 40-foot boxcars (AAR 1937 design) in this livery.
