I'm thinking among the more likely are -- finally -- SDL39, SW1001, GE P30CH, and state-of-the-art EMD NW & SW switchers and maybe even an SD45, which although it's been done a lot, has sales appeal for being big HP and of course those radiators. And I know there are some second-generation GEs that haven't been done state-of-the-art.
Personally I'd love to see a Lima RS switcher, Krauss-Maffei cab units, and a DD35 and DD35A, but not seriously expecting them.

No more SDs that have been done (and redone again) already is what I’m hoping for, more unique equipment. Definetly still on that SW1001 list and hopefully some commuter stuff.

Top notch C30-7, an accurate B39-8E esp LMX units. I dislike Intermountain so hopefully someone else doing C44-9Ws and AC4400s. Scaletrains doing more SD40-2s.....later BN units with ditchlights. BNSF H1 ex BN reprints obviously with ditchlights. ATSF also later with ditchlights. Looking for a lot of late 70s to 90s locomotives With different variants/changes as time changes with them. Ohhh yeah a TOP notch SD60 too. Not walthers train set SD60s.

I'll get this out of the way up front: some say we should buy a KATO chassis and a P2K body and sort of kit bash a GP30, but I have and endless list of things to do on the house/basement, let alone plan and build a layout so yeah ...
I'd like a ScaleTrains/Genesis quality D&RGW GP30 - just sayin...

Think Rapido just announced they were doing those. So you may be in luck lol Haven't those already been produced in a couple runs by Rapido a few years back? And as mentioned above, a new run is being planned. This topic appears to be a new product wish list, rather than products we'd like to se re-run. |

Not so much more as what I would like to see in new diesels produced, but rather in the quality of what is produced. A move to embrace today's technology and marry plastic with metal. SOMETHING has to be done to improve handrails.
If manufacturers are claiming they do not need to produce undecorated models because THEY are building them for us, then SOMETHING has to be done about the quality of the assembly, the quality of the paint and the quality of the parts.
So I would like the manufacturers to go back to the board room and reinvent the quality of the model. If not that. Then I would like to see more undecorated unassembled models so I can build what THEY cannot.

Brian I completely agree, I have received $300 models with globs of glue on small detail parts that you have chisel off and fingerprints. I too order undecorated when available, Scaletrains needs to get on board. |

And honestly when it comes to non-US engines, I tend to be a bit dangerous about the specifics. I couldn't remember if Rapido produced a GMD FP7A or GMD FP9A so might be egg on my face. Athearn Genesis GP28...  I would like to see manufacturers re-think the handrail stanchions. We need to go with metal or a combination of slightly over-sized styrene or abs stanchions with cored holes and wire handrails. MORE UNDECORATED models...for those of us who like to build our own stuff. |

I'm hoping these get announced or come to market in 2018:
1. AC4400 from Genesis, Intermountain or Scaletrains
2. AC6000CW from The same 3
3. MP15AC from Genesis with improved handrails that don't bend inward and ditchlights
4. Walthers releases the SD70ACE and ES44AC in Proto 2000 and fixes the lean issue (diesel, not handrails)
5. GP40X in Genesis

Things that affect handrails (including but not limited to the following):
1. Plastic type used.
2. Percentage of virgin plastic versus recycled plastic
3. Amount of cooling time prior to ejection from the mold
The manufacturers can and do design handrails that will work adequately, but they cannot always be at the factory to keep them from "shorting" the cooling time prior to ejection from the mold. Then we receive warped handrails on our models.
When assembling models, some workers are outstanding and some are not.
Manufacturers, unless it's a high cost item like for example Intermountain's SP cab forward, do not have the staff or the money to pay employees to take the time to open and inspect every single model before it goes to the buyer. I don't even believe Overland Models was able to inspect every single brass diesel before it went out, but more likely spot checked several to see how they looked. There simply is not enough time or money to do that--especially when you have dealers beating on you about where their models are, why MBK already has them on their website and I have not received mine yet, etc.
WE the buying public whined and moaned about delrin handrails not holding paint well, not being adequately dyed to match the paint, and not being able to be adequately glued if broken.
So the manufacturers responded by switching to slightly different plastics that can be more effectively dyed, painted, and glued--BUT are now more brittle, too, and more easily broken than the delrin handrails of a few years ago.
They already ARE slightly oversizing the handrails for durability--BUT the product reviewers then whine about the handrail stanchions being "too fat".
HOW is the manufacturer to win?
I would like to see an Intermountain GP-11 rtr in all the different roadnames. I now own four GP-10's.
In general the manufacturers are doing a great job and we have so many products that were never available before.

Quite honestly. I do not think the manufacturer will ever win in ANY situation. It is just the nature of the consumer. There are just to many opinions and desires from the hobby consumer.
I do not really care what comes out next. If I can use it, I'll buy it. If I cannot, I won't buy it. It is that simple. My consumer desire is for undecorated diesel models and truck side frames made from styrene.

1. GE C30-7s (also the cut levers those style GEs used, I don't know how I'm supposed to get bend that loop)
2. EMD GP35s
3. More BN SD40-2s (scaletrains)
Literally it for me. I must be weird for having more issues with Kato drives than P2K drives...

P42 and AC44CW models close in quality and detail to the Overland brass models I sold many years ago. Nothing available now even comes close.
I still have an OMI AC6000CW and the latest ET44AH locomotives from Scale Trains are almost as impressive.
The NS Admiral Cab I received from Scale Trains is excellent so any modern diesel produced by them would be fine by me but am waiting for the container ship to arrive with my pair of SD 40-3's.

Wish list items for me are the Lima switchers like the LS1200's, an HH600's, H16-44's (TM-style), and more NH electrics. All pie-in-the-sky hopefuls, but ones that I want.

I'm hoping for a good quality SD45 and SD90, and more road numbers from Scale Trains SD40-2's, preferably more modern UP with ditch lights.
While the Walthers Mainline SD60 is a good starting point, we do need a better quality SD60, Walthers Proto, Scale Trains or Bowser.

I would like to see a Fairbanks-Morse H20-44. I know, only a handful of roads bought these, less than 100 were manufactured, and certainly they would have little appeal to contemporary modelers. I had an old ALCO Models brass version, but as far as I know, they were never produced in plastic.
I would also like to see a good GE U25B and C32-8.
