How about a breakdown of what all was new at the Amherst Train Show. I know of the Scale Trains, Bowser, and Tangent stuff but what else? Atlas, Athearn, Intermountain, etc......

Actual examples of the following models forthcoming from Atlas were on display: HO Hart ballast hoppers, GE Dash 8-40 C's and CW's, Trainman cupola cabooses (C&O style), AEM-7 and ALP-4 expected Q1; Master series postwar double-door boxcars 5503 cu. ft. boxcars and Trainman GP39-2 expected Q2, plus Master series postwar double-door boxcars, i'm not sure for which quarter.
Rapido reported that its Canadian Pacific D-10/G, H and J 4-6-0 is in final design. They had a solid-looking body with trucks for the EP-5 electric. Also samples of the NP round-roof double-sheathed 40' boxcar, looking very good.

Has Kato made any new HO announcements as of late? Seems they are getting away from HO and sticking with N.

They list the acs64 as having a TCS wowsound decoder, not a soundtraxx decoder.

It says the same thing on the website. Must have been a very recent change. The catalog that Bachmann was handing out still says Soundtraxx Sound Value. They list the acs64 as having a TCS wowsound decoder, not a soundtraxx decoder.

Rapido had their New Haven RR Parlor and Parlor-Lounge production models on display. These examples were air freighted in from China to be present at the show while the rest of the order is making it's way through Customs.
Athearn had their new "Spirit of the Union Pacific" on display.

Best thing I found there wasn't a new product at all. An Atlas Classic C425 converted to N&W high short hood. For $40.

Will it be "wait until next year" frothing for an SC-44 Charger?

Scaletrains announced the Gunderson covered hoppers in HO and N scale on Saturday. They had both the HO & N model samples painted and lettered on hand. They also announced a new rivet counter POST 1980 SD40-2 engines and had many model samples painted and decorated on display! I have to edit a bunch of videos that I shot of Scaletrains, Adarius running trains, my Booth and many other manufacturers.
Rapido had a 3D model of the NH EP-5 which looked sim9lar to a shapeways 3D printed items since it was clear translucent type of plastic. They also had the new sample of their upcoming steam locomotive. I also have video from there.
Athearn displayed the new HO scale military dedicated SD70ACe and the new NS Veterans SD60s. Apparently Athearn got a huge tax break so they in turn gave themselves large raises by giving their customers a new raise in MSRP prices, which have jumped from $299 to $329 MSRP!
The most surprising and breakthrough news was from MTH on Sunday afternoon when they had a hand delivered pre-production sample of their newly announced HO SD70ACe-T4 (EMD TIER 4) engine and had the gorgeous pre-production model on display which has an expected October 2018 release timeline with a $299 MSRP. They are initially going to be available in Union Pacific and BNSF whom have them at this point with more railroads to follow in due time. The sample looked absolutely amazing too. They also had the UP O scale military SD70ACe on hand with the HO planned to be done as well. Summer 2018 with a $299 MSRP.
Monster LEDs by Myself has added vehicle Monster License plates and I even did a drawing for a OMI Brass UP SD70M which was open to anyone that bought a LED kit. I am also working on developing O scale Monster kits.
Loksound had their new DCC system on hand and in operation. The Android throttle is pretty cool and simple to navigate all functions with ease. A very nice DCC system for just around $500 AND it is a full wireless system so there is not both tethered and wireless throttles, just wireless!
The turnout was very low at 17,002 this year! I was told that the previous year was tallied at 23,000 but I seem to remember it was more like 19,000+.

Pretty sure the costs to build them in China remain the same and the paint is more complicated than the average accounting for the higher pricing. Possible licensing fees are involved. I happened to notice Atlas GP40-2Ws in MBTA cost $15 or so more expressly for that reason. And as was noted Rapido won't do "AMRoad" F-units for Silver Streak because a license fee would about double the price per unit.

lvrr325, What makes you think that the costs in China have remained the same? There's a reason why Jason is moving his factory hundreds of miles away from the Chinese province everyone uses. I've heard the area is flooded by high-paying electronics jobs, which drives up the costs for everything else (just like San Francisco). The cost of labor in China in that province are skyrocketing. I've been told that Rapido's NH Parlors arriving next month should have been ~10% more than the NH 8600 coaches that came out in September 2016, but Jason kept the price the same. And that's in less than 18 months.

In Jason's video on the move he indicated that it was in the same province, Kwantung but north of Canton in less industrialized town with lower cost of living for employees. Less competition from factory down the street for product engineers and die cutters. (Sorry I still use the old anglicized Cantonese spellings for Chinese locations instead of Beijing's Mandarin replacements. Family were old China hands.)

The 23,000 for last year is probably the total population. They posted the numbers for this year on the site and the gate attendance was 17,047 with a total population of 20,547. The turnout was very low at 17,002 this year! I was told that the previous year was tallied at 23,000 but I seem to remember it was more like 19,000+.

I'm just pointing out the tax cut line is crap because it has no bearing on what's going on in China without trying to turn this into an off topic political argument. I guess I should have been more specific with regard to my point.

The dollar has fallen almost 10% in the last year or so, against the Euro.

This is a must buy. Any place to pre-order? I was able to pre-order mine from Tony's Train Exchange. While they may not be listed on the site yet, just e-mail them and they will pre-order. Their price is $199.99. BTW they are not expected until late August according to The Tony's Rep.

I like Tony's Train Exchange and M.B. Klein (aka Model Train Stuff) for many of my preorders! Both of those shops are Top Notch for prices and service. I steer clear from Trainworld.
