I managed to weather a couple more mineral service 4427s this week, one Exactrail Ph. I and another LLP2K. I'm getting acquainted with craft store acrylics as the base coat to fade the gray and lessen the intensity of the black lettering, followed by chalks applied with a small soft flat brush. So far it's been fun try out some new things with this group of cars.

Mark, nice job on those Rio Grande covered hoppers.
I don't have any of the ExactRail version yet, only the old Walthers kit versions of the low hip 4427, but do plan to pick some up maybe next time they go on sale.

All of these models look terrific! That UP 7513 really looks great. The Chevy Impalas remind me of my high school days. T-Bird--love that weathering with the acrylics.

Agree'd those Imapalas look sweet. An auto rack full of them would look awesome!

You guys are really bringing it this week. Here's something I caught leaving the GE plant last week: Sorry for the glare off the windshield. It took me by surprise.

Those are good models on display this week. That WC GP30 is just nasty looking but in a good way as I like locomotives like that, LOL. TBird, thanks for the info on the D&RGW 4427 Cu. Ft. covered hoppers that you gave last week. I don't feel so bad about selling that lone Rio Grande 4427 Cu. Ft. hopper that I acquired, added the Plano walkways, etc., and then turned around and sold a few years ago. As for me, I experimented weathering on an Atlas BNSF 8-40BW that I had bought around this time last year as well as finishing a transition-era ATSF 40' boxcar. This morning I also took the time to scan in 30+ photos of CSX U-Boats, Dash-7's, and Dash-8's that I will upload to my Flickr site as time permits.

Some one got a new controller for their HO layout/man-cave? LOL! I am still having a hard time grasping the fact that the Dash-8's are now being sent off to be scrapped or donated to museums. I remember being a young teen and being thrilled at seeing my first CSX C40-8 and thinking it was the neatest locomotive. Time is flying by...

I believe this cab is from one of the rebuild cores we deliver to GE every now and then. I've seen several dead NS Dash 9s brought in to the roundhouse at Alliance in the past few weeks. So there are more coming out the other end of the plant soon.

I've got a pair of Impalas that I finished this week. A red 66, and a blue 69. Okay John, You've got two full-size Chevys. But, you don't yet have the RIGHT full-size Impala. If it isn't a 1968 Impala SS fastback, it don't count!!!! I'll accept 68 station wagons too, preferably a nine passenger with the way back seat. I'll also accept a Caprice wagon, but the wood grain is not likely doable in HO scale. Oh, the 68 SS has to be Ermine White with a black vinyl top and parchment and black interior.

EJ&E SW1200 301 on the bench for a customer. Basic detailing with KV models grill, new handrail stantions, horn cut and built from a Details West RS3L (WHY does nobody make a proper single chime Leslie!) soldered onto a new bracket, and the other usual things. Still a few things to add and tweak before paint. NY Cross Harbor NW2 58. Southern added knuckle busters to this one which I did with Planos part. Originally I added both etched pieces, but they sat so far out it looked ridiculous. I popped them off and added just the outer etching, which is better. The headlight will be a new Detail Associates part, as they make the one with proper orientation. Sand fillers were changed to an elbow with a cap. Still a bunch to do on this.. A project for a new layout customer. These are 20' containers, that had upper roof panels removed for loading Incinerator Ash out of Long Island in the 1990s. There must have been a shortage of actual open top containers, as several of these (SSI, ITEL, Uniflex and XTRA) simply had the roofs cut open, two yellow marking stripes added, and a rod welded on the side for tarp tie-downs. I need to build, alot of these, as well as hopefully make a master and cast the actual open top 20' containers that have yet to be made in HO, period. Playing around with some new Military Modeling supplies for making flags, canvas and tarps (for the containers above), I tried making an HO Scale, 12" red flag. I am rather happy with it!

I hate the custom coupe roof line on the 68, so I'll have to do some kit bashing on this one. The custom coupe or formal was also sometimes referred to as the Caprice roof line. You could get an Impala SS with the formal roof. I used to own a 68 Impala SS with Caprice roof. It looked okay since the car was Ermine White with a Black Vinyl top. The car itself was very basic. 327, Turbo 400 and the SS package. No air conditioning, power windows etc. Now my other 1968 Impala SS was a fast back. Again it was painted Ermine White with a black vinyl roof. Power train was a 327-275hp engine which consisted of 327 block and intake manifold, the heads and carburetor were for a 69 350 high performance engine. Everything was original. The car was built two days from the end of the 68 production. The rest of car was all bells and whistles with power windows, power door locks, six way power drivers seat, vigilite, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt wheel, AM/FM radio, remote side mirror, front disc brakes, gauges-tach-speedwarning cluster, and a shoulder seat belt which was one of 131. Rare car no doubt, but the reason for all the equipment may have been what was printed on the broadcast sheets found on the car, "Central Office Company Car". I was the car's fifth owner.

I’m a year younger than that UP dash 8. Even I feel old... Almost done with the anticlimber and pilot on this F45. I need some black paint and cutlevers (I’ll order from athearn since I need some other stuff from them).

Nearing the finish line on my Norfolk Southern RPU6D slug and SD33ECO mother. Triple clasp htc trucks were modified with athearn mounting pins to fit properly. Scale trains handrails from my sd40-2 donor shell were used for the front and rear ends as nothing else matched. Strobe kit will be hear by the weekend and led's were test fit into the housing. 0202180416 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 0204181402a by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 0204181402 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Also added PTC antenna's to my NYSW SD60's. 0202180408_HDR by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

John, your cars are amazing. I'm floored every time you post another one. The in-progress photos are unreal, though. Hard to believe they're HO scale. That's the kind of work you'd expect to see on a 1:25 scale car.
