I keep a box of accurail plastic wheelsets. I use these to replace the wheels on other cars as temps until i can get some replacement metal wheels. Normally that might be several months as I don't mail order very much or goto train shows. I find the accurail wheels are pretty good. Better than most plastic wheel sets I've come across. I keep them from kits that i buy. Not to change the topic but, I remember about, well must be over five years ago now, accurail had metal wheelsets on there accu-ready line. What happened to there short lived rtr line?

[SNIP] Not to change the topic but, I remember about, well must be over five years ago now, accurail had metal wheelsets on there accu-ready line. What happened to there short lived rtr line? Around 2010, Accurail was quoted in a forum somewhere that the costs of assembling the kits into ready-to-run models overseas had risen significantly and that they were looking for alternatives. Looks like nothing ever panned out. I got some great prices on their RTR autoracks from some dealer online. Not tbe quickest of their cars to assemble, so that was a leap forward in terms of getting some up and running.

AHM got around to most bad ideas sooner or later, at least mechanically speaking. BUT, I am grateful to them for having done what remain the best renditions -- if only because nobody else has done them in plastic -- of the original NYC Flexi-Flo hopper (even though they never did it in NYC paint) and the clamshell-top B&LE / P&LE gondola. Here's a slightly modified AHM Flexi Flo hopper.

I was being facetious. I did many mods, that's for sure. Thanks. The trucks are 125T with the springs changed.

"Anyone still using plastic wheels?"
Why sure!
1. Pile them up on a fire resistant surface. 2. Light the propane torch.... 3. Practice your plastic "Heating and Re-shaping" techniques.
NOTE: What's left will be completely useless.
Wear a respirator....and use plenty of ventilation. The fumes can knock you on your keester!
