Technically I think Gomer Pyle had an extra "r" as in "Sur-prise"
More importantly, I like the thoughts of these locos.

And if it looks better than that thing that Athearn is trying to pass off as a Genesis unit, which I'm sure it will, then I'm in. IAIS, here we come!

Between the GP-10 and the cabooseses from Blueford-Shops and Spring Mills, I'm glad that I'm already broke. Bummer

The Paducah GP-10 looks good, but I was more interested in the Athearn Genesis GP-38-2 announcement. I see 4 new BN GP-38-2's with sound in my future. Plus, they are also doing the Rock and the Milwaukee Road. This could get very expensive. Bill

The issue with Intermountain releases is this could easily be another 2 years before they arrive.

Think of it this way: at least Bachmann didn't announce them! Oh sure it would be DCC and sound-equipped at a low low price, but you'd get a GP9 with an IC-style chop-nose and that's it

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Athearn has all but officially announced that they will be producing Paducah Geeps as part of their Genesis line. With Intermountain's long lead times, it wouldn't surprise me if they both release their Paducah Geeps around the same time.

BTW..A fake GP10 can be made from Walthers GP9M just for the price of a Detail Associates Horst Paducah air filter..

I'm all about a quality product. I just hope it's not a case of duplicate effort like having two high quality passenger trains like the Daylight showing up at the same time etc. Assuming the duplicate effort model doesn't go it could mean Athearn will move another project to the front burner. Maybe the GP16s that were built from old geeps in Family Lines.

I know that also Conrail had a number of Geeps rebuilt by the Paducah shops. Were they different from IC/ICG GP10s? Ciao. Raffaele

On IM pre-announcement I read "Watch for the product announcement in the Spring of 2013". It means that the model will not be in the stores before Spring of 2014, if everything goes well. Ciao. Raffaele

IF F-units are any barometer, the Intermountain will be a less expensive model with noticeable warts (aka errors) and the Genesis model will be sharper and more well executed. I'm not sold on Intermoutain's tooling for their diesels. I know the F-units date to the late 90's, but when I stuck my toe in the IMRC SD40-2W water, I wasn't very happy with the effort.

So now we begin to wonder whether the numbering and lettering on them will be the correct size... and if not whether it will ever be corrected... (IM CSX E44DCs were not even corrected on second run)

(IM CSX E44DCs were not even corrected on second run) At first I thought, how can you screw up IC/ICG orange and white.....then I remembered we are talking about an Intermountain model. Don't forget sports fans that Intermountain boogered up the CN zebra stripping on the first run of the SD40-2W.
