Does anyone know the rooftop lift ring diameter(s) on 1st Generation EMDs, specifically GP7s and GP9s?
Plano Model Products offers four lift ring sizes: 14650 - 4"O.D. x 2.5"I.D. 14651 - 3.375"O.D. x 1.75"I.D. 14652 - 2.75"O.D. x 1.5"I.D. 14653 - 2.375"O.D x 1.375"I.D

I've always been curious about the Plano lift rings. When one folds the 2 halves together, is there a noticeable "seam"?
Thanks. Bob

Not that I've ever experienced. After folding i give them a good squeeze with some flat jaw pliers. Once you paint them the seam disappears.

I drill a hole slightly smaller than what is needed. I do exactly what edgecrusher says and give them a good squeeze. Using a diamond file, I slightly point the post end. Then I grip them tight in a set of pliers and press them into the holes. The smaller hole really helps to keep them pressed together. Brian

I guess I will be the first naysayer in that I cant say I really like them. They are OK, but I still dont think they look that great when folded, nor is the hole very visible.
My favorites are still the Detail Associates eye bolts. They had a nice, tight radius.
On the same token, maybe one of these days a manufacturer will finally get the eye bolt locations right on the GP7/9s...
