To The Rescue Remnants, from Guy Noir, Railroad Detective. "She came into my office in beautiful downtown White River Jct......breathless.....as she had just seen the B&M #494 4-4-0 across the street... But as soon as she arrived, she whirled around, leaving only the scent of Chanel No. 5. Before I could catch up with her, she was leaving on the Northbound Montrealer...... (push pull consist) ...she was gone forever. But the crew of the NECR 3851 had sweet dreams that night after watching her cross the tracks in front of them..... The scent of Chanel No. 5 had mixed with diesel exhaust....never to be forgotten. That's all for now from beautiful downtown White River Jct." Guy Noir

From the 'ol Atlas Forum.....one true thing was the photos. Photos speak for themselves. Karl knows that. I know that. And many others know that. So, to draw in a great rail photog of the Atlas Forum, I present one of his finest....... ....David Leonard, reposted by permission.... David is a fine human, dying of cancer. And not afraid. Can we say that? Have We lived our lives with integrity? Have we lived our lives for now, trying to be the best we can be...right now? ...the best of David Leonard. The Horses..... ...and the color of those Strasburg coaches is a nice .....merlot. I believe the Universe is one. Above religion. And trains are a part of that. Skip

Yes, the "Stand By Me Bridge", that he did NOT catch a fish under....... .... so.....in this world of ithingies...and shop 'til you drop.....there is a calm. A knowledge that the Packers will meet the 49ers in the playoffs...and sanity will prevail. Go Pack...... Sluggo..... (this is where I would use the tounge thingy.....lol)

Thank you kind sir for posting 'Sandy's photo for me. Modom knows I'm a one gal guy--we've been hitched 56 years-- I am truthful about the price I pay for my railway models and always say what I would like to do on the railway...exchanges...buying...selling. I take an interest in Modoms quilt making and go to the quilt shows with her. She had to put up with all the unsocial hours I used to have to work when on the footplate and even when an inspector. I had one turn of duty 3 days continuous when working the Royal Train now I try to make it up to her providing the cancer can be kept at bay. The engine Sandy was on was an 0-6-0 tender loco we had 41 out of a class of 45 at our depot. will have to sign off little boy pussy cat has decided to lay on my lap again purring like a motor bike...it's 23-34hrs so time for bed ...happy trails....jb.

The Sandy photo reminds me of all the cute babes that used to find their way into RAILROAD Magazine in the old days. Steam in -20 weather...

The Sandy photo reminds me of all the cute babes that used to find their way into RAILROAD Magazine in the old days. When I was 12 I got a stack of RAILROAD magazines for Christmas. I was amazed at the girls in those magazines. My older brother was outraged that my parents bought me such stuff. Dad thought I was just looking at the trains!

Ok, the photo on my desktop above is of Perkins Cove, ME., and the baseball is signed by Whitey Ford, the Yankee great. And I am a Dodger fan. Brooklyn Dodger fan of the Gil Hodges era. So why do I have a Yankee ball? It's a long story....... Anyway, peace on earth to man and animal. Skip

ooops, photo thread, forgot for a moment. ...out of the fog of life...a David Leonard classic shot of a Darth Vader loco.... ...one of mine. From that magical day in Strasburg, PA..... ...Dunsmuir CA, by sdodge, Gall, Dog B,...one guy, too many names.....grin Trains and fishing. Even Warren Buffett, with all his riches...never had it that good. Karl, Christmas is creeping up. You know what I mean.... ...while maybe not a Christmas photo, it instills in me the spirit of Christmas. A photo by Karl's dad of his dad. Now that's what family, and Christmas, is all about. Karl, your winter steamer scenes would be most welcome here. Guys, add more photo's to this thread. Make it your own. Cheers, (with a good eggnog) Skip

Just a queery kind sirs, The tail end view of the obs coach/car/carriage or whatever-I couldn't see a steam heater connection ? was this old vehicle electrically heated or didn't tail enders have a steam heat connection? or has it been modified for modern day running?? My English stock the tail enders I sort of super detail by fitting side/tail lamp irons and drop head buckeyes or the correct pattern link coupling plus flexi brake and steam heat pipes. Intermediate vehicles have the minimum fittings required until their turn for detailling comes along---that will be when I celebrate my 649th birthday! maybe.--- Am writing from the Shetland Isles so am using No 2 daughters laptop hence being back on line whilst it is still this year. Liked the photo of the pussy cat sitting watching procedures on the poncuter, exactly the same as our Bramble except he can trap my typing arm with a "Half Nelson"! Despite the storm our 26 seater aeroplane landed on three wheels with not too much of a bump/bounce but we have been house bound ever since. Might get out tomorrow and visit the one model shop on the island in which case I shall buy some plastic kits of military vehicles for loads on my bogie flat cars. I fear they may have to be 1/50th but will see. I didn't have room for the Drovers Car we had a weight limit of 20 kilos. One of my granddaughters said there is a chap in Scalloway who has an 0 scale layout I may even get the chance to see some running on his layout. I must perceveer and learn how to operate the photo bucket thingy. It seems I do have an account and once got a photo of my layout onto the G.O.G Forum section.nil desperandum... or in this case ...facta non verba... Happy Christmas-Happy Trails-67281 Jim.

Jim, the really old passenger cars were heated with a wood or coal stove. Steam was a later advancement, after many cars caught fire.

Kind Sirs, Passenger train consists, I presume if there were a mix of modern coaches (English term) then the newer E T H stock and or Steam heated stock would be marshalled next to the engine and non continuous heated stock would be at the back end....Yes ? Modern to me being late 40s early 50s Steam locos steam heat and Diesels either steam heat or E T H. We used to have modern coaches with E T H and Steam Heater through pipes same as some coaches had vacuum through pipes and Air Brakes or visa versa also two pipe air or single pipe air in the same train !! just to add to the confusion in 1952 our train had two pipe vacuum as we were push and pull fitted. I was the stoker on the engine on my own and the driver two coaches away in his drivers compartment. We did see each other whenever we were engine leading. Regards Jim Brodie potential platform edge white line painter or railway line polisher to keep them shiny so the trains couls run on them--well that's what my Mam used to say when I said I wanted to be an engine driver! 17-32hours Shetland Islands. happy trails.

James, most long distance trains were Steam Heat until Amtrak aquired HEP cars in the 70s. the cars were never run together, the Heritage Steam cars were on certain trains,HEP cars on others until Amtrak had enuff HEP cars to retire the Heritage cars by about 1990. to be hauled by Amtrak a car must have HEP and Roller Bearings.there may be a few Self Powered/Lited cars that are Exceptions though. Head End Power taken from the Locomotives or a Power Genorating car. Spikre
