Finished weathering my NYC double door boxcar. Car started with a Branchline 50' boxcar that comes with the correct NYC style roof and ends. I did add Kadee #178 couplers, metal stirrups, a Kadee brakewheel, Plano roof walk supports and roof walk and Tangent 50-ton ASF trucks. I painted it with Pollyscale Jade Green paint and Model Flex black. I then lettered it with Microscale decals. I then faded the paint using a dilute mixture of the green that I added white and blue to. I masked the big logo off first since that did not fade as much as the rest of the letteing. I then weathered it with pencils, PanPastels and airbrushing. I also weathered the roof and running board by dabbing on my galvanized color to the roof and applied some weathering over that. These NYC boxcars looked pretty tired during the Penn Central era.

Another fine piece, Tom. How do you take the latest Atlas P&E offering?

Another fine piece, Tom. How do you take the latest Atlas P&E offering? The Atlas model looks very good and accurate. The Atlas (former Branchline) is correct for the NYC built car including the correct ends and roof. The green also looks accurate too based on the photographs of the model. Branchline originally offered this car in the P&E paint but the Atlas version looks like the printing of the graphics is done much better than the Branchline car.

Very nice work, Tom! I'm currently (slowly) working on one of these in auto parts service. It's a very faded PC patch scheme. Thanks for providing some inspiration to keep working on it!

Tom, I think I know the answer to this question, but just want to double check. When you build up your Branchline kits, do you typically glue the doors shut? On most of my cars I left the door operable and the don't stay closed.

For the double door cars I first glue the two door together by gluing styrene strips to that back of the doors and then installing them.

This would be better in the Sunday photo fun thread. Hey look at my box car. I don't believe that everyone looks at the Sunday Photo Fun thread. Tom's outstanding work should be able to be easily viewed by all HO modelers to inspire them.
For that matter, let's see some of your freight car creations....
