Asking people to sign their real name on their posts is a ridiculous request. How in the world would it help the validity of a post to put a name on it, when anyone can make up a name and sign their post with it. With no real way to verify if a name is legit or not, why would it make a post more valid, important or believable to put a name to it real or fake. The only need for a real name would be when a post is from someone such as a vendor or manufacturer.

It’s always the brand-R fanboys that are the first to start whining about pseudonyms and aliases. Yawn.

If I were to make a guess, I would say Judge Doom just rebranded himself.

"Real Name" comment: I'm sensitive to this topic because earlier in my life I was the subject of a stalker to the point that law enforcement became involved.
My first name is above my avatar at the left of the posts. First name, not full name. The automatic sig line appends the name of my home town. Not the state, nor email, nor any other matter.
Nevertheless just that bit of information has opened me to unwanted attention a few times. One was recent and on this forum when a noted model builder attacked a project I posted. Both on the forum and in private.
The second I think I have not mentioned publicly. I posted a negative comment with photographs about a product from a popular manufacturer. Within an hour I received an irate telephone call from the manufacturer. We were on OK terms at the end of the call, but will never be drinking buddies. I did go back and carefully edit my post that had caused the problem. Within a day there were other postings on several lists from folks who had made the same observation. I've never stopped purchasing from the manufacturer and hold that company in highest regard despite the call.
In both cases I thought about changing my user name and also deleting my location from my profile. But I figure the cats out of the bag now. Had I known the future I think I would have used a handle as so many others do.
An online attack is one thing. An email and/or a telephone call is something else.

That same choice isnt always acceptable to others, though. I would like to join Stark's great FB group on freight cars but was denied because of the name. So it goes both ways, I accept that not everyone feels the same on the issue. My contention is the written word doesnt need a name to be true or false, many an author have used fake names in their published works over the ages. The same Facebook that lets members choose from amongst something like 23 different genders? Just be sure to use your real name. LOL Yeah I'll get right on that.
