We had our first sunny Saturday for a while so I took some photos of a PRR X51 boxcar that I built a couple of years ago but finally go around to weathering. The car was built using a Branchline double doorboxcar but to make it look like the PRR built car I added a new sidesill: The car was painted using the now discontinued Pollyscale Italian Camoflouge Brown. I have been fustrated by not having accurate PRR decals so I designed my own and had them printed by Don Manlick. The lube plates were from the PCRRHS and the ACI label is from Highball Productions. If anyone is interested I showed how I modeled this car in a past issue of the PRR Historical Society's "The Kestone Modeler". Since I model Penn Central and not the PRR one of the doors shows a replacement door that was in PC green. Instead of the supplied Branchline overhanging roof I used a Moloco roof with Plano roofwalk supports. The car was weathered by first using water colored pencils and a regular #2 pencil to add some weathering, rust streaks, and door scrapings. An airbrush was then used to complete it. The end result shows why kitbasing, painting, and decaling are still required to model common freight cars. The decals are not currently available (there really wasn't that much demand) but I still have the artwork so I may rerun the set again. I will have this car plus others on display at the the RPM East Meet which will be held in two weeks: www.hansmanns.org/rpm_east/

Sweet. I noticed the different side sill right away. The stock side sills can be key identifier of the Branchline models.

Amazing that PC, once despised by many has turned into the object of interest lately. Hopefully more items will be offered in the future.
A+ modeling and great weathering!
