Are parts of this just a copy of the Kato model, but updated here and there. The coupler pocket detail looks similar. I only had one BLI loco, an SD40-2 which was given to me, and I gave it away after getting it running. When I had it apart, I noted that all kinds of things inside the shell and frame appeared to have been copied from Kato. I thought that was really odd for areas that weren't visible when the model was assembled. Nearly every quirk of Kato's tooling, inside and out, was replicated on BLI's shell, including items Kato either got wrong or did poorly.

I have a friend that maintains a fleet of GP35s, made by EMD. His HO GP35 of choice is a Kato. Can you friend help provide some detail photos and dimension of parts? I've been putting together a table of dimensions. Things that I could find from diagram sheets that include basics like truck centers, wheelbase, over the end/side sills, rail to top of X, but do not include things like over long hood sides (6 ft. ?), cab length, short hood slope angle, hood end angle in degrees, etc..

I forget when the Kato GP35 came out, but have some undec shells I wanted for a Rock Island project. The way Kato engineered the shell, all that I need for the RI 300-304 is a cab sub-base with the configuration to match and different walkway/sill, and maybe a reworked fuel tank/reservoir/plumbing part.

Just in case anyone has extra Kato GP35 frames available please let me know. I can use 2 or 3. I'm not expecting to see Kato USA to ever have these again in stock.

I'm going to wait for the Arrowhead Models version. Worth it for the box alone.

The Kato GP35 was imported about 1992 (was reviewed by MR in that year). The newer model is the same body with upgraded handrails, not always dyed in the right color to match the body paint.

There's this page, but it probably contains multiple errors (like the other thedieselshop.us pages):
Or this, which is mostly errors & railfantasy:
