Well poo, the WP ones are sorta tempting. I’m wondering if a DRGW would be appropriate to run with my tunnel motor?

At least ST did the ‘71 built versions with the blower hump stiffening ribs and the extended (almost dash 2) dynamic housing. Those are good lookin units.

Nice. I think I know what I want for Christmas this year! Nothing says the holidays like a black GP40.

I just ordered two DCC Ready PCs. This is awesome news but have to say why didn't they do say Chessie or NYC ect instead of C&NW it seems C&NW is a slow seller. 🤔 Anyway it'll save some money I have a decent number of preorders in the pipeline. Hope they do PC orange C too.

Didn’t they get used on the “inside gateway” train, or was that just WP uboats and Gp35s?

Well poo, the WP ones are sorta tempting. I’m wondering if a DRGW would be appropriate to run with my tunnel motor? Yes. While tunnel motors tended to run in sets, especially in the earlier days, it wasn't unusual for D&RGW to mix 4 and 6 motor diesels. This is going to be a major pain in the wallet but I've got a year to save up.

Oh lordy, six road numbers for Milwaukee GP40s, all pre-beacon and not billboard. For once, I get to say my wallet is toast.

Didn’t they get used on the “inside gateway” train, or was that just WP uboats and Gp35s? Why, yes: I found (above) a shot I took in April of 1975--FIVE WP GP40's showing. And one U23B. Nary a U30B nor a GP35 in sight. This time. Being somewhat poor (at the moment), I'll likely get only two, and run them with my WP GP20 and U23B. And hope they all match (enough). Just as I dislike the BN logo that replaced the BN diagonal nose stripes, I dislike the "WP sunburst" that replaced the WP end stripes. So my WP modeling cuts off at around 1975. Earlier (pre-Perlman) is of course totally acceptable. Ed

On for some D&RGW ones, they look nice and don't clash with anything I've already done.

Finally nice to see someone doing the C&NW 5500 series GP40s. They were common on the Harvard Sub out of Proviso to Janesville running the B trains to GM and other misc freights. Also common on the Cowboy Line. Wallet will be hurting on this run.
I'm not a WP modeler, but I might just have to save a little more for the Bicentennial unit.

I'm not a WP modeler, but I might just have to save a little more for the Bicentennial unit. WP had two Bicentennial GP40's: 1776 and 1976 1776 was painted in the scheme at the end of March, 1976. It stayed in that scheme until April 1979. 1976 was painted in the scheme in early May of 1976. I don't know when it was repainted--probably around the same time as above. The medallions, as shown in the sample drawings, were changed to different ones fairly quickly. I'm guessing in a few months. The early version was a "great seal" style, while the later was a "liberty bell" style. I'm going to phone ScaleTrains on Monday and suggest they supply both medallions in each box. Alternately, Microscale has a decal set for these locomotives, MC-4274, that is currently out of stock. Yeah, it surely is tempting to get at least one of these. Ed

Ed, I think it's better if you don't call. A "lack of medallions" thread around Christmas will brighten the holiday spirit. Making things easier for people never seems to help. I'm wanting the WP units in the orange and silver scheme, or else the ones with the larger orange area on the nose and side of the cab of the Perlman Green scheme.
Maybe next time...
(My one friend bugged me for quite some time to buy some GE's, so I finally did.)

I've been knocking around the idea of doing northfield and randolph MN on the MNS, a pair of these MILW to work the interchange at northfield would be nice..
