Decision made to replace the multimarks with the decals below. Double/double your proto photos before committing. I looked at a bunch of CP vans and the relationship of the black and white seem to be all over the place. It looked to me that they painted the white and then fitted the black to the height of the side regardless of the relationship to the white. Having said that, this is likely a case of the model builder making a better choice than the shop painters. Unless you are pairing the model with proto photographs for an RPM meet, going with what looks right is a better choice.

Quick shot with the new multimark. I think this more accurately replicates the real thing.

New multimark, COTS, ACI and 1974 repaint date decals are dry. Weathering done as well, ready for dullcote!

Seems the box store spray dullcote is hard to find, so I have no choice but to use satin for now.

New multimark looks good! Any secret to removing and reinstalling the long curved grab iron and bracket that must be removed on each side to facilitate the new decal?

^ Easy-peasy, slip an exacto in the gap and apply gradual upward pressure, parts pop right out, watch the bracket doesn't go flying. Re-install with weldbond, good as new.

Another good piece of work. Surprisingly to me, the satin finish works fine. Did the trucks come with it? They look nice with their coatings.

Don't forget to paint the bottom edges of the body shell walls to achieve the uniform black shown here. Also weather the included factory trucks, wheels and underframe, don't just accept the unweathered plastic RTR look.

Let's end this simple upgrade thread with a better shot of the new end platform. I will give everyone a short break from my threads and be back in the coming days/weeks. Thanks for following along!

I will give everyone a short break from my threads and be back in the coming days/weeks. Hope you won't leave us hanging too long... I'm going to get withdrawal symptoms! Seriously, you deserve a break but I'm looking forward to whatever you have planned next.

^ Thanks Colin for your unwavering support, it means a lot. Remember I have been posting daily update photos for almost 9 months now but if concerned about withdrawal I can certainly endorse the bn7023 junk refurb thread in the meantime. I've got a pot on the stove, just waiting for it to heat up before starting a new thread. The topic will be the same but the build approach will be a bit different this time to keep things interesting. Hope that helps.
