Bowser updated their delivery schedule and they're showing a GMD SD40 for 6/1/2025. I hope this is correct and not a mistake. I haven't seen them RE-ANNOUNCED since the project was cancelled a few years ago.

That's an unexpected addition to the delivery schedule.
If it turns out that the SD40 project has indeed been revived, that would be a very welcome surprise. The ETA is only a couple of months behind the one for the SD40-2W so if there's confirmation that the SD40 has been resurrected, I'll probably shelve plans to get an SD40-2W in favor of an SD40 assuming the budget doesn't allow for me to get both.

Bowser has the SD40 product page up: www.bowser-trains.com/history/sd40loco.htmlAt least one dealer (Trainworld) is already taking preorders. Seems pretty official. I’m definitely in for a couple CP units for 1990s run-through trains in Maryland. Just need to figure out which road numbers are the best fit, but it looks like the 5500-series non-Multimark units were most common on those trains. Dave

August 2, 2024, starting 7:44 p.m.
I'm glad to see the Bowser Executive Line GMD versions of the SD40 scheduled for production. If the news about this had come yesterday or even early this morning I could have put it in my already very long submission of material for my "Modeling Matters" column for the September issue of the all-volunteer Bridge Line Historical Society Bulletin that was due by noon today. I'll try include it for the October issue, for which the deadline is now a bit less than four weeks away.
Considering the small size of my layout, I need to concentrate on models of older and smaller locomotives.

So, maybe I should look to dump my Kato SD40's and pony up for the new Algoma Central models.

That looks like the old page from long ago. I don't see an easy way to navigate to the page from their site. Are you sure that's new?

If you go to the parent directory, the page has a revision date of 6/21/2024. I don't know if that helps, but it suggests someone at Bower is at least doing something with the webpage.

Likewise - and I see Bowser still has my photo of AC 182 taken April 25, 1972 after its first winter in the north country. How does one post photos here?? I tried the attachment link but it errored out about forum is full?? And the insert image doesn't work either - I linked to a photo on my Flickr page and nothing happens.... Thanks... Flickr just worked for me, above. I copied and pasted the BBCode. And I also removed all the accompanying text by editing out after the first backeted "slash url". Ed

If I was interested in a GMD SD40 I’d phone Bowser, but I have no interest. Now if it was an EMD SD40 it would be a different story, and my first Bowser purchase, but it isn’t. Steve

that's awesome news!
Since they haven't announced any changes, I'm going to assume all of the paint schemes and road numbers will be carrying over from back when they were originally announced, so unfortunately I can't use any of them.
Hoping for some rebuilt versions in the future like the GTW 5900s or even the PSC rebuilds, the CN 6000s. I would be very happy and much poorer if those come about. Heck, even some of the units that got sold off and became rent-a-wrecks would be great.

I recall they were also planning on doing some US versions. I'd like at minimum for them to tool the US steps for future releases including the WC 6001, Alstom 3000's, and the BNSF 7300's, among others.

If they are doing US versions I’d probably get rid of my Athearn RTR and pick up a couple Conrails and a PC.

they have a new product page up on their website for them now: www.bowser-trains.com/new/SD40.htmlI don't quite remember because the original announcement was so long ago, but I think there are a couple paint schemes in there that were not in the original announcement back then.

Hmm, looks like they aren’t doing the ex-QNSL SD40s in plain action red anymore. That’s too bad, I wanted to pick up one of those the first time they announced them.
