Just finished speed matching these two units, now it’s time to change the horns, if necessary. I’m not sure if Atlas programmed them with the correct horn sound.
What horn did the D&H and Reading use on these units? They look like Leslie S3 on the models.

The Reading used S3's, but the D&H had M3's. On some D&H M3's the rear bell had an oblong shape and was angled upward. These may have only been used bracket-mounted on the RS3's and C628's to clear the cab roof. The GE's had standard M3's.

Cal-Scale makes the D&H M3.

Thanks. The horn on the Atlas model is obviously a Leslie. I thought the one I could see in photos was not, but wasn’t certain.
I just ordered some of the Cal Scale M3 horns as I have an earlier Atlas U30C,as well as this latest release, to replace the horns on.

Atlas seemed to put Leslie S3Ls on almost every locomotive until fairly recently.

Atlas seemed to put Leslie S3Ls on almost every locomotive until fairly recently. Apparently still are, if the current U30C release is considered. My D&H model definitely has a Leslie. It’s a nice representation though and will go into the details box to be used in the future if needed. Tom
