Now that its August some communities are probably thinking about order some road salt soon. My railroad is now ready as I finished weathering my Tangent Morton Salt covered hopper. Car started as a Tangent decorated car. I first faded the as delivered gray paint to a slightly lighter shade of gray. I then removed the fade from the black lettering using isopropyl alcohol and a micro brush. I weathered the car to fit in with my ~1974 era railroad using Tamiya panel liner paint, colored pencils and airbrushing. Only modification to the car itself was to replace the stock wheels with Tangent's near scale wheels.

When it rains, it pours! That’s a great-looking simple paint scheme on that model.
Excellent weathering as always, Tom!

August 6, 2024, shortly before 8 a.m., EDT
Tom, a fine looking car. Had Tangent applied the lettering for Morton Salt Company? If it had, somehow I missed the announcement of that and would like to know about it.
7:55 a.m.
I've just checked Tangent's website; Tangnet DID letter their fine 4427 cu.ft. "high side" covered hoppers in this livery, and all but one of the car numbers it made are still available.
7:59 a.m.
And, Tom, I should have read the caption to the photo you posted more attentively! Sorry!
8:03 a.m.
I have just now found out, but searching on this forum, that Tangent produced the Morton cars in November 2023.
8:18 a.m.
Yet another correction: Tangent produced the run containing the Morton cars in February 2024. Other liveries in the run of interest to those of us modeling the Northeastern US are CPAA gray, Cargill yellow, MILW yellow and WC cars patched on the MILW scheme.
10:59 a.m. My last "correction" was wrong: the Morton cars and the yellow Cargill ones were announced in November 2023.

Nice work as always tom!
I've been updating some old proto 4427s I have with nicer wheelsets and 158s...for as nice as those cars were for their time the tangents are worlds better.

Nice work as always tom! I've been updating some old proto 4427s I have with nicer wheelsets and 158s...for as nice as those cars were for their time the tangents are worlds better. When I received my Tangent Cargill cars, I was considering getting rid of my Protos, but placing them next to each other on the layout, I believe the Protos still hold their own & will use both brands in my trains. Eventually, I'll probably upgrade the Protos with some more details, like air hoses, coupler cut levers, etc.
