Our all-new diesel locomotive announcement is the Rivet Counter HO Scale Norfolk Southern GE AC44C6M. This highly-anticipated and often-requested rebuild is a must-have addition to any modern model railroad roster, especially for Norfolk Southern modelers, as the Class I Railroad now operates over 840 of the prototypes across its 20,000-mile network. You might be thinking: “Another wide cab GE locomotive… Why?”The GE AC44C6M has become the backbone of Norfolk Southern’s modern locomotive fleet, with over 800 units rebuilt thus far. The C6Ms are a mishmash of original C40-9s/C44-9Ws with various old and new parts added or removed. Because of this, individual road numbers often have varied details from one unit to another. In other words, nearly every C6M is different. This makes the C6M as complex as any other all-new locomotive project. Just like the prototype, our Rivet Counter HO Scale GE AC44C6M is different. That’s why we’ve created 16 body versions with 33 unique detail variations among the entire series of road numbers. These “early” C6Ms represent the C40-9 rebuilds (NS series 8764-8888), released between late 2015 and 2018. Later C6Ms built from wide cab cores will be offered on the next production run including #4822, the “Thank You To Our Railroaders” unit. The Rivet Counter series GE AC44C6M model combines smooth operating performance with unparalleled railroad, road number, and era specific details like…
• GEVO replacement “safety cab” with four (4) side windows • Nose door without window • Front high (cab) mounted headlight • Wide profile end handrails • Walkway with front and rear anticlimbers • JEM Communications PTC antenna farm with Sinclair antennas • Lost-wax brass cast Nathan AirChime P5 (P5R24 configuration) horn • Nathan AirChime K5LAR24 with Shower Caps (#4000 and #4002) • Electronic handbrake variations • Brakewheel variations • Exhaust stack variations – early or late • Graham-White 994-500 or 975-100 Series Air Dryers • And more… The model also includes industry-leading LED lighting features like…
• Operating LED-illuminated ground lights on both sides of locomotive* • Operating LED-illuminated front, rear, and side walkway lights* • Operating LED-illuminated front and rear alternating ditch lights** • Printed high-mount cab number boards with separately controlled backlit LED-illumination* • Directional LED-illuminated headlights Plus ESU-designed PowerPack with two super capacitors – a $50 retail value - FREE! Available Paint Schemes:
• Norfolk Southern/“Sonic Bonnet”/Blue Mane #4000 • Norfolk Southern/Black Mane/Tuscan Red Stripe #4002 • Norfolk Southern/Black Mane/Blue Stripe #4004 • Norfolk Southern/Horsehead • Norfolk Southern/Horsehead/Primer Cab #4047 • Norfolk Southern/Horsehead/DC to AC Sinewave Click here to preorder our all-new Rivet Counter HO Scale GE AC44C6M Diesel Locomotives by Monday, September 9, 2024 for delivery next summer: www.scaletrains.com/ho-scale/ho-scale-locomotives/rivet-counter-ho-scale-ge-ac44c6m.html

And the announcement winner for the NTS in Long Beach, CA 2024 is Scaletrains for the AC44C6M, even though I couldn't tell the difference between a AC4400 and this locomotive. I'll need to to some research because I really like NS and CP.

There are also AC44CWMs which are basically AC44s that have gone through the same upgrade program, minus the conversion from DC to AC.

My Son totally flipped out over this, he did his first pre-order ever for two of these. Definitely happy for all the NS modelers out there.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. All the strive for detail, but presentation is terrible. Warped handrails crooked applied details etc. Body moulding is Questionable too, definitely not crisp. Mick

You would think after years of releases that this would have been fixed. They obviously know about it. The bent pilot on NS 4000 is probably the worst seen so far. Rivet counter model? Get outta here

I was surprised when I noticed the pilots were pulled down. Had forgotten about those problems on the early Dash 9s I got. I was able to fix them easily from what I remember. So I'm still really excited to get these! Hopefully it will be an easy fix if they don't correct the problem before production.

I want to see the High Hood SD45's that they corrected the Nose/Cab height difference. (Remember the last group of photos where the cab Supposedly became unseated during transit)

The fix is to put a washer between the coupler mounting boss and the coupler box. While this helps, there are two problems that I encountered. In the worst case, if you put enough washers on to completely straighten things out, the ditch lights won't work anymore because the contacts on the shell don't connect to the ones on the chassis. The other problem is that the shell now has a "memory" and wants to stay warped. I was surprised when I noticed the pilots were pulled down. Would be nice if Scaletrains would correct the problem so we don't have to though.

For what it's worth, I sent Scale Trains an email asking them to fix the issue. At $315/each, it's not unreasonable.

Lovely models. Quality of product seems to be a low concern. Pass.
