Hello everybody,
I've been quiet for a long time but now finally finding my way back to the hobby.
So, in my research on Coos Bay Rail Line GP30 #1909 (former #2448 of Coos Bay Rail Link) it struck me that the db fan has the same height as the 48" radiator fans. Here are good examples of what I mean:
Or is that normal for a GP30? I always thought the 30’s db fan sits flush with the top "shoulders".
And, being on the 30’s fans, does anybody have a hint where I could source a Cannon 1706 36" fan? They seem to be out of production and consequently out of stock everywhere I checked.
I have based my model on a Phase II P2k shell mated to a Kato GP35 chassis, modified following Brian Banna’s great video on how to do it. Thank you very much, fishbelly ! I guess you’ll get to see some of it in a fute SPF thread.
Thanks and all the best Jan

Two quick comments here: 1 - the loco in question is an ex-ATSF GP30m rebuild, on at least some ATSF rebuilds the dynamic brake fans were taller than the original fans. 2 - on many GP30s - impossible to say if it was all - the dynamic brake fan sits on a raised base above the hood roofline which accounts for some of the perceived height of the fan. I love the Proto GP30s but they did not capture this detail, fortunately Plano has a fix: www.planomodelproducts.com/14807.htmlGood luck with the project! Don't forget some of the features specific to the ATSF rebuilds, some but not all are: - the flat cab front center windows which replaced the peaked windshield - exposed vertical conduit in front of the cab running from the top of the nose to the underside of the numberboards - access door low down on the blower duct behind the cab on the fireman's side. I think there was another access door added behind the cab on the opposite side - there is also a conduit running from one d/b bulge to the other forward and rear of the d/b fan, I'll try to find a photo of this. Thank you Doug, that’s a big help.
I already sliced the front windows from aP2k SD45 cab I had left over an crafted them into the cab, filling out the voids in nose and number board blister.
