I see the latest example of these has started to slowly come out- Trainworld only has undecs with sound. None on Lombard yet.
Anyone got one yet? Curious to see thoughts on them and if previous version bodies will be able to fit on the new chassis. I've got a custom decorated DCC one that I'd like to see live again.
Thanks!

Bachmann shipments have been weird recently. I got 90% of my Via Venture set, but the cab car was massive delayed with no explanation.
I'm assuming this is something similar. I can't help with the body question.

I could get two or three roadnames as of last week. At $500 list frankly I'd throw away an old one and just buy a Rapido. Even if they mess up half the details it's going to be a better model and the sound one is $100 less just to start. They're due to show up any day.

I always thought the Bachmann 44T was a pretty good shell, its just the drive has always...sucked. They are on acid with that new price though.
I will be curious to see the Bachmann shell next to the Rapido when it arrives, and more importantly, how the Rapido runs.
I hope we can get a high quality 70T as well soon.

About 12-14(?) years ago these and the Bachmann 70-tonners could be had for less than $30. I don't remember what retailer was blowing them out but it lasted a year or so.

I remember buying one at or near that price many years ago.

The Bachmann 44T has always looked a little misproportioned to me. Hoping for the best with the Rapido model. Totally agree with 12Bridge, a high quality 70 tonner would rock. I'll take two Montpelier & Barre's and three Salzburg St J's.

Well, my custom decorated latest generation pre-sound Bachmann will be kept either as a display piece or will see a new life if the shell will fit on the new one with sound. I'll wait to get one on sale if the shell will indeed work.
I have hopes that a second run of Rapido's will include my roadname of choice and if not its an easy scheme to do. Their demo video of its pulling power was impressive for sure.

I purchased several from The Favorite Spot on eBay during the time frame you listed. They were blowing out a bunch of Bachmann stuff and I purchased a bit of On30.

Hi all, your friendly neighborhood Bachmann rep here again to answer some of your questions: The body shell from the previous runs will fit (a bit snugly) on the new DCC Sound chassis. The entire production run for all roadnames arrived at Bachmann's distribution center over the past few weeks. As far as what's in stock and not at your local retailer, it depends on what they ordered, or what may be part of a larger order that may have not been completely fulfilled and shipped out yet. NYSW3614 , in regards to the specific sellers you mentioned, I just checked Trainworld today and they now appear to have everything in stock except the painted/unlettered. As far as Lombard, they are extremely selective about what Bachmann products they choose to order and stock. I would inquire with them directly to check, but it seems they decided they didn't want to sell the 44 Tonner. As always, we encourage those interested to purchase to shop around for the best possible price. Our MSRPs are set at the level they are at in order to offer the best possible discounts to distributors and wholesalers, who in turn hopefully will pass on the savings to the consumer. In regards to the VIA Venture cars: The cab car was held back from production because we have not been satisfied with the acoustics on the preproduction samples, and it's taken some time and experimentation with our engineering team and TCS to get the best volume and speaker performance. We now have a finalized design and should be going into full production very soon. The cab car will arrive this winter with a restock of the VIA and Amtrak Midwest cars coming around the same time. And the requests to bring back the 70 Tonner are duly noted!

Bachmann is standard discount like Atlas now. A Rapido is enough cheaper than even with a shorter discount the sound one is exactly the same cost. The Bachmann will look like a better deal because it will be a higher percent off at say $250. If you can find someone who is able to buy direct at the same price as a wholesaler and then sell at the wholesale price that's about the best you will do.

Oh, how I would love a high end GE 70-tonner. I have a pair of Bachmann originals (with new drives) painted Ahnapee and Western and would love to have a pair of Arkansas & Ozarks GE 70-tonners. Darin Umlauft a WC, SOO and GBW fan in Slinger, WI I always thought the Bachmann 44T was a pretty good shell, its just the drive has always...sucked. They are on acid with that new price though. SP had 21 70-ton units, CN had 18.

I would love to see them add sound to their 45-tonner too.
