Tried calling Tangent at their phone number this morning for a little information and never got a connection. Then I see the devastation that Ashville got from this hurricane and LOTS of rain they received. Major flooding in this area from this storm. I hope they survived this storm without much damage to them self's and their business. It would be a great loss to the hobby if they were to be no more. I hope everyone living in this area is ok and safe. I have been to Ashville, very nice place to visit. Praying for all.

This is a screen capture from a drone video showing damage in a place called Erwin, Tenneessee. Not sure how far or close that is to Asheville, NC, but things do not look very good in a lot of places hit by flooding from Helene. Mark J. Reading, PA

9/28/2024, starting 4:50 p.m., EDT
In the East Coast states I haven't been farther south than Greensboro, North Carolina. Asheville is one place in the South that I'd really like to see first hand, for several reasons, not limited to masters of railroad interest. It was Thomas Wolfe's home town. Some of the first scientific forestry was done on the Vanderbilts' Biltmore estate nearby. I'd also like to see Jefferson's Monticello in Virginia, some of the coast in the Carolinas and Georgia, especially Charleston, SC and some of the Sea Islands, plus New Orleans and some of Cajun areas in Louisiana. I've been to Texas twice but haven't seen San Antonio.
I join in the prayers for the people in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

Tangent has posted on the web site that them and the warehouse are intact.
Other than the loss of life and property, the Clinchfield may be done as a through route. Probably a dozen full washouts and at least the bridges at Poplar and Chestoa are gone. Let's see how much CSX likes that Eastman Chemical traffic now. On the north end you are only loading trains at Mcclure, which was still active as of a year ago. Gonna be interesting.
I'd imagine this probably kills off the Old Fort grade on NS as well.

Here is Tangent's post on their FB page: Direct quote and update from Tangent's FB page: Just wanted to give a little update. All three employees here in Asheville are safe. We've had power restored to the warehouse, but still lacking internet, water and both cell and landline phone service there. We are working on plans to try and start getting shipments out over the next few days. USPS and UPS is running in WNC. If you've placed an order, please be patient. You will receive your shipment, it may just take a few days longer. Please keep Western North Carolina in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your continued support.
