Truly Amazing times in the hobby. Never thought we would see the Rio Grande shop built cabooses in plastic but there they are. These are the riveted version so my Overland welded examples are not duplicated in plastic, at least for now.

Thanks very much for formatting the information for ARF! Love the large photos and glad to see another accurate, long-overdue RTR plastic caboose.

9/20/24, just after noon, EDT
jonklein611, thanks very much for this news. The video is less off-the-wall than some from Rapido Trains, except for the Railway of Lies patch job paint scheme at the end.
D&RGW modelers should be very happy. Maybe there's some hope for prototypical EL or D&H cabooses from Rapido Trains in the future. Meanwhile, the "single stripe" paint scheme on the D&RGW cars is so gorgeous that as a perhaps certificable end-of-train caboose (and observation card) nut I find it tempting, though not high on my wish list.
New Haven modelers and those who like big recent and contemporary freight cars should also be very happy.

Probably looking at 18-24 months give or take on the reefers. Some of the other pieces will be here sooner per the video.
I still have a few of the first run boxcars, but for the most part they sold well.

The Cryo reefers show a lot of promise, but I have my suspicions that Rapido will once again fall short in representing a high quality and accurate model. Time will tell.

Thanks to Rapido for an excellent newsletter. I love the modern reefers and will guess that these will sell out. I'll be buying a few for sure, and the SP patchouts look great too.

What is the twist with the original PC&F SP/SSW boxcars.

How different are the SP boxcars from the Intermountain models? Slight difference in cubic capacity (5283 IM vs. 5258 Rapido). Other than that?

Those reefers are HOT! They should sell extremely well. As for the haters or doubters. Maybe another manufacturer should’ve done them. Alls I heard was excuses that they couldn’t get the licensing. To the victor goes the spoils. It’s whomever gets the licensing first ( at least Walthers didn’t). Rapido will do a great job. The only other manufacturer that could’ve pulled these off would’ve been Aurora Miniatures.

The late DRGW caboose is nice too. Might just have to get one for the heck of it.

Different builder, different ends, different roof (non-overhanging vs. overhanging), side ladders vs. grab irons, slightly different underbody arrangement. Dave

Thank God Athearn did not announce the reefers because I would have been dead before they came out!

So for the D&RGW cabooses, are those test shots or renderings?

Was hoping the Cryo-Trans cars were going to be the original 1990s version to replace the old Walthers kit/model since those are the cars I need. Oh well... happy for those who have been waiting for these cars and the DRGW caboose!

I'm still eager to see the actual Rapido Trains Newsletter, which still hasn't been posted on the firm's website or emailed to those on the list to get it.

They mention a hand painted sample, have a picture on their bridge diorama, and had them on display at two events in CO this weekend.

I'm not super familiar with E8/E9s but man all of those OCS units look good. I know a few guys from the Conrail Historical Society have been working closely with Rapido to ensure that the CR units are as close to accurate as can reasonably be achieved with the existing tooling.

It's also right in their newsletter that they have preproduction samples and a handpainted version.
