Seems odd, but all the ACF cars were designed and tooled at the same time. I think sometimes there can be a bit of pre-order burn-out. So, opted to this one in the background. Note, that only the sides are different from the already announced cars. Therefore, a pretty straight forward obvious extension of the double pkug door versions. We were also waiting for more info on the MP cars. Nick Oddly jumping past the ones already announced, which I have on order.

These are sharp! A hair too new for me, i'm already experiencing enough build date creep as it is..... that being said I could see an FEC in my fleet because of its uniqueness.

These look super nice and I intend on purchasing at least two.
I recon’ $66.99 or close to it will be “the norm” sooner than later. Sigh…

Sigh… True, but as the saying goes “don’t hate the player, hate the game.” Moloco is just trying to survive in a world of unnecessarily high inflation. I still think you get a lot of value for your money with a Moloco car. You just need to be more selective with what you buy these days since each car is more like a mini investment than a casual purchase. Hope Nick someday offers a Miner RF-361 draft gear. Needed those for my Atlas PC X71 boxcars.😉 Mark J. Reading, PA

10/24/2024, about 1:15 p.m., EDT
Since it's a 50-footer built in 1974, the FEC model would be more appropriate for my small layout than most tall cars. Glad to know that the FEC cars made it at least to the EL, since my primary interest is the D&H. Hmmmm.

I'll echo the love for the FEC, what a sharp beast. That art-deco inspired lettering is just fantastic.

The FEC and SLSF cars were part of a Whirl-pool (see what I did there?) that served the Whirlpool plant in Ft Smith, Arkansas, so they could have gone anywhere with a Whirlpool/KitchenAid/Maytag appliance distributor. Like Nick already mentioned, the EL wheel report collection has FEC #5046 eastbound in train NY-98 on 5/31/75 loaded with Machinery and consigned to the Merit Distribution Center in Kearny NJ. I've also got SLSF #11914 westbound in train BRC-97 on 10/28/75 empty and consigned back to Whirlpool Corp in Ft Smith AR via the C&EI connection in Chicago. Given these cars were pooled, any of the cars assigned could have shown up on the EL.

5046 seems to have gotten around. It is also the one on RR Picture Achieves shown on Cajon Pass in southern California in '81. It is also a number that is not in Moloco's release...

Thanks Pat, for mentioning the EL wheel reports. Yes, these cars did get around. I did forget about the KitchenAid as another brand name they produced at Ft. Smith. Even though not on the EL wheel reports, but the photo that I posted on the website of the Frisco car, 11907, shows a Frisco car on the EL in Port Jervis. Note that it has a small CPC stencil for Corn Products Company service. SO, most likely in palletized service for CPC as well during a similar era. CPC had a large facility on the BRC in Argo, IL. As well as other locations. Nick 10/24/2024, about 1:15 p.m., EDT Since it's a 50-footer built in 1974, the FEC model would be more appropriate for my small layout than most tall cars. Yes, thanks, Nick! I forgot to mention that picture you've got on the web site of SLSF #11907 on the EL. Hard to argue with photographic proof! In the picture, SLSF #11907 is empty, so it probably came from the Corn Products facility in Ridgefield NJ. One wonders at what point and which SLSF cars switched from hauling appliances to corn products. CPC International was a big company that shipped stuff all over the country, though, so either way (Whirlpool appliances or CPC corn products) it's good, for those who care about such things as knowing what went where and when.

Pat, thanks for your very fine wordplay a few posts back. And for all your wheel reports from the EL. Also thanks to Nick for providing us with the opportunity to buy great cars and parts.

I hope the other ACF cars make it here before the new TARIFFS go into effect because I would not pay $144.98 for a box car. Game over at that point.

If Trump imposes tariffs on ALL toys imported from China, that will include model trains and we will see one of the worse years in sales in recent memory. There will be some serious ramifications for the MR community.

It will certainly make it comparatively attractive to produce model railroad equipment in THIS country. At least, as long as the tariffs last. I'm not sure I'd care to gamble my fortune on that.
Kupla hours later:
Oddly, I've just been watching my old buddy, Ryan McBeth, talking about this very subject on Youtube. Not the model railroad part, but the potential lack of wisdom of depending on cheap Chinese goods, rather than being able to make our own.
