Ordered a bunch of DT&I's and N&W for our club members, sure would like to see reruns of the PS 4000's and 4740's.

As beautiful as they are, I can't use any more of the Greenville 86 footers right now -- in fact, I already have far more than I need. I am patiently waiting (and saving my money) for the PS 4427 in the Santa Fe "Billboard" repaint scheme. I need about 20 of those.
To be honest, I am a bit surprised that Tangent is doing so many runs of the Greenville 86 foot box cars in such a short period of time. I believe that there have been 10? runs of the 86 footers in the past 4 years. It seems like the market must be getting pretty saturated by now. Granted, the cars are beautiful. As much as I would like to buy more, I simply can't justify the purchase.
In contrast, I think that Tangent has done maybe 4? runs of the afore mentioned PS 4427. And it's not just the 4427, Tangent has a number of cars in their stable that could use some love - X58, G43, GATC hoppers, PS hoppers...

As much as I would like to buy more, I simply can't justify the purchase. Considering that when Tangent initially introduced the 86' cars, they sold like hot cakes. They saw that as an opportunity to capitalize on the market with other variations and paint schemes. Cars were designed and orders placed to the factories. Keep in mind that the lead time on these probably took 1-2 years to come to market. Little did they know that other manufacturers were going to introduce their own 86' cars (albeit different prototypes). Can't cancel factory orders cause of the time and money invested. With all that said, now you have an "over saturation" of cars in the market.... a specialized market at that. I agree with you they are beautiful cars and I too am running out of space to run them. I'll admit, most of them stay on the shelf.... I mean in staging. With today's limited runs, if you don't buy them now (even if you don't need them), you won't be able to get them at a later date. I feel like in the next year or 2, the 86' market will be gone and you will have to wait another 10 years or more for a manufacturer to build them. I wish they would rerun the 4180 airslides. Now those are cars I missed out on entirely and the cars I find on the 2nd hand market are not worth the prices people are asking for. And yes the ATSF 4427 hopper cars in the billboard scheme are much desired. .02

There are some here that have complained Tangent makes too many Midwestern grain hoppers. So I suppose it just shows you can't please all the people all of the time.
There's also the very vocal guy who complains when every release isn't a Southern caboose. He's the one you can't please ever.

I hear you on the 86' footers. I'm maxed out. I may even shed a couple now that the layout is up and running and I can get a better idea what I will run or not. I did manage to find enough 4427 hoppers and 4180 Airslides but those who missed out would like access to those models - I get that. There are a few on Fleabay and some at reasonable prices. I'm looking at my collection and figuring out what I will use. Only so much space on the layout although I do have 11 tracks staging to and some storage tracks off of staging.

I hate to say it, but I'm getting a bit bored of 86' Boxcars. It feels like Tangent is just becoming The 86' Boxcar Company Plus a Few Other Models Remember when Tangent used to make GSC flatcars? Lets bust some of that old tooling out from the archives. Go on the Tangent website, look what is available, look what has sold out, both recently, and during the history of Tangent, and come back here and say that with a straight face. Sure, it's been hi-cube heavy recently, but did you ever consider there are reasons for that, other than Tangent has jumped the shark and just thinks all we want are 86' boxcars now? Tangent announces a new product available immediately available EVERY MONTH. Do you really expect it to be 12 different cars in a year? Do you have any idea how overseas production works?!? I hate to sound fanboyish, but calling Tangent "The 86' Boxcar Company" is just utter nonsense.
