Any ideas on where to find 30" diameter covered hopper hatches as used on 50's era PS-2's? I've written to Kadee, since they mostly list boxcar parts on their site. RCR on Ebay has hatches for the old MDC cars, better than nothing, I guess. Nothing on the Athearn site and I won't even bother asking Walthers. IIRC Detail Associates had 30" hatches for Center Flows, but I think they have embossed stiffeners that the older ones don't have. ~ Walt

Those look good, but not quite close enough for my project.

Unless Kadee has changed, they were good about selling everything, even if you had to call/email to ask about specific parts. Can't speak to price, but when you need it for a project, you don't want it wrong...

Kadee responded very quickly. They said the hatches cost $3.60. Not sure if that means each or for a set.
They have two types of hatches. I know what one looks like because my B&M PS-2 has them. Not sure what the others look like. But I found a closeup of the hatch I need and I think they'll have to be scratched. Round with a shallow, flat dome embossed in the top, latch across it. Might make an RTV mold and cast them. Probably be easier than trying to build 8 identical parts.
