Happy Mother's Day! Don't forget to say hi to mom and give her your best.
Well, I figured I'd get a bit of a jump on this thread since I'm going to be rolling out in a few hours.
Anyway, here's what I've worked on this week, a pair of BN covered hoppers in the reporting marks only stealth scheme. Both of them started out factory painted in the BN small logo scheme, which is appropriate for my modeling era, but just barely. I figured rather than have two examples of what would be very rare cars, I'd rather just have two more ordinary cars to mix in with the former leasers, predecessor schemes and elevator scheme cars.
The first one is an Atlas 4650 that I managed to preserve the factory paint on. I replaced the reporting marks and dimensional data with a mixture of decals from my collection. The reporting marks aren't an exact match for the prototype, but are as close as I could get. I'm not sure what was going on with BN when these cars were getting painted into the stealth scheme, but inconsistencies in the lettering style and even the paint color weren't uncommon:
This one started off as a factory painted Intermountain car. I didn't have as much success removing the logo without damaging the paint as I did with the Atlas car, so I elected to repair and repaint it. Again, I didn't have a great match for the reporting marks, but it's as close to the style on the prototype as I could get. I also added some placards to indicate this car is in fertilizer service. It will go well paired with the Magor hopper as an inbound load for the bulk blend plant:
I only have a few more hopper kits left, so hopefully I'll be able to show something else in the near future!
