I'm seem to be lagging behind in my welcomings, but it's great to have all the new members and familiar names joining here.

Edward J Anderson (aka "eja") here.
I'm a technically retired, although I still occasionally do some consulting as a systems engineer. Spent most of my working life with various defense contractors working on satellite communications systems.
Long time member of the defunct Atlas forum and several other boards, usual with the same handle. I started modeling Pennsylvania in HO scale (50-60's time frame), but switched to N for two reasons. First I realized the size and space advantages of N scale. And second, I was trying to get my sons interested in model railroading and I realized that they never had and probably never would see a PRR locomotive or rolling stock unless it was "stuffed". Living in SoCal, I decided to switch to Santa Fe, because that is what the boys could see and I thought it might spur their interest. It didn't.
Today I model BNSF, CP and Amtrak. I have a soft spot for the Frasier Canyon and Canadian grain cars. I have a couple of short Amtrak trains that I like to augment with PV cars. I love the Private Varnish - it gives me an excuse to buy any passenger car I like regardless of vintage or road name.
My main other interest/activities are related to music. I am a violinist who plays with three symphony orchestras at various times of the year and am also a member of a string quartet. Thank goodness I am retired so I have time to practice !
Glad to be on board ...

Glad to have you on board, Edward. Not quite near retirement, technically or otherwise. Wife says I'd miss my job if I did retire. ;D Pretty interesting RR's you model. I like the Private Varnish idea. Never considered it before. There are plenty of musicians here. My Grandmother, bless her, tried to get me interested many, many, many years ago when I was in elementary school, but it wasn't for me. I admire those of you who do. Looking forward to your Forum contributions.

Hmmmmm............ Welcome to the Forum, Larry. I think I "know" your handle on the other Forums, but I could be mistaken. If you are who I think you are ( ) I'm wondering why you chose Peddler for a moniker over here. Would it have anything to do with your planned, new HO ISL?

Mike:Would it have anything to do with your planned, new HO ISL? ----------------------------------- Absolutely! I figured somebody would put 2 and 2 together and figure out who I am on the other forums.. Why Peddler? I wanted a different moniker so,"peddler" is short for peddler freight.

Neat, that's kinda what I thought when I did put 2 & 2 together!! ;D We hope you want to be as active here as you are elsewhere and used to be over on the old "A" Forum.

I was known as "Jim from Valencia CA" on the old Atlas forum. I am 59 years old. I am CPA and hope to retire in three years. I built a "California basement" to house my layout. A California basement is a second story addition. My layout is housed in a 22' X 23' room. I model contemporary western railroading, but occaisionally I take all the modern equipment off the layout and run 1950's era equipment.

I was on the Atlas forum for many years starting in 2001 maybe? Same username. Anyway, longtime HO modeler, Free-mo advocate/participant, and active in HO scale vehicle modeling. I grew up with the Mopac, BN, Santa Fe and Cotton Belt all within a couple miles from my house, so that's generally what I model, though the occasional NS/Southern/NW model creeps in there from time to time. I am just shy of 40 and I work as a conductor for a large western railroad some would say has Been Nothing Since Frisco. Even with all the fun I have at work, I still find time to squeeze in some modeling at weird hours or on my days off. Anyway, I'm glad to be able to visit this forum. I was missing some of you old Atlas regulars!
PS Best of luck in the job search, Ray. If they hire any more conductors I'll put in a word and we can play trains out here!

Was a long time member of the original Atlas Forum but haven't been on there the past few years. Just heard about this forum about a week or so ago.
Been into trains and modeling them on and off over the years since I got a Lionel 'O' scale set around the Christmas tree at age 3 in 1956. Mostly have modeled in HO but have dabbled in N a couple times over the years, too.
I've been on medical retirement/disability since 2000 and so couldn't work on the layout since. All I had done at that time was a layout plan and studs. Recently a local model RR guy has offered to help me, so I've been doing some room prep work in a 10'x20' area of my basement, though I have the entire 22'x38' basement to use if I want. We'll see how this smaller area works out for now. In the past year or so I've gotten a ceiling up and drywall up for scenic backdrops. Now I'm in the process of painting them.
Layout will be based on the CB&Q in late 1969, six months before the merger that created BN. I'm modeling the Q's double track main in a mostly rural area 'somewhere' in north central rural Illinois. This will circle around the basement. The free-lance part is a rural branchline of the Burlington I'm called the Illiniwek River Branch which will meander around the interior area of the basement. But right now I'm concentrating on the 10'x20' urban part which will give me lots of industrial switching. Then we'll see how it goes from there.
Recognizing some names here from 'the old days' so I'm looking forward to participating on the board as time permits.
