So Athearn announced this? It isn't in their catalog. And I don't look at facebook. It isn't in the catalog because they haven't set a pre-order, estimated arrival or even a price of the Topeka cab. Its all TBA.

Of course, where (Facebook) and right about when (1600 Central time) Athearn promised. If it wasn't announced I suppose Carrman's post would be an elaborate hoax. It's not. I don't make hoaxes about model trains, I take my trains seriously....;-)

I'll still stand behind my statements on that...
Overall, the GP39X/GP49 was not an all new unit (from ground up) as hinted, it IS actually a passenger unit (after all 6 were rebuilt in 2002 and now all operate in passenger service on Florida Tri-Rail), and in my opinion is one of the worst (least selling) options they could have done in an existing product line (especially when compared to the SD60F and flared SD70M units).

GP39X/49 Sucks! You should have stuck with that guess though Curt. But I did say I would like to really prefer to see MTH or Kato produce the SD70M flared/Phase II. The best drives and durability all in one package. This is not a shot, but the truth. I was hoping Athearn would be the one for that engine but then I got a Athearn Fragenesis SD70M that fell to seller status in less than a year of ownership due to poor quality and fragility hence the term Fragenesis.

Al, I was talking to Athearn at TrainFest and you came up. They are currently dispatching snipers to your area. LOL, actually Shane had nothing but nice things to say about you. We also talked about the Amherst show and how they look forward to seeing you there. I talked to Kato and MTH, neither have plans for an SD70M Flared radiator but maybe they will change their minds.

By the time Flared radiators come out they will not be considered "Modern era" or By the time Flared radiators come out I will be pushing up Daisies since the snipers have already been dispatched to Connecticut. LOL

The idea of an "Athearn Sniper Team" brings to mind images of Barney Fife suddenly becoming the next James Bond, 007 -- with a license to kill that expired last year.

I used to enjoy Barney many years ago. It must be great for Athearn to receive so much attention with so little effort!!! Larry
