I haven't seen the Sunday Photo thread in awhile so since I'm finally around my computer again I thought I'd start one. Here's a photo of my six axle Mopac power on one of my Free-mo modules. The scenery for this module was inspired by the former Frisco from Tulsa, OK to Irving, TX, a run that I'm very familiar with. I don't think it's prototypically correct to have Mopac power on this train, but I didn't have any Frisco or BN power handy at the time. Besides, there's nothing wrong with Jenks blue just south of Jenks, Oklahoma. Next are some freight cars I've weathered recently. These have had a few extra details added to them but are otherwise pretty much stock factory painted models from ExactRail and Athearn. These photos were taken on one of my other Free-mo modules. It's Sunday, so post 'em if you got 'em!

Here are some cars I managed to finish the past few weeks. IMRC 10,000 Gal Tank Car Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Black Paint and lettered with Champ Decals. IMRC 2980CF ACF Covered Hopper Kit, replaced sill steps with A-Line Sill Steps, Painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray and lettered with Oddballs Decals. IMRC 4750CF PS Covered Hopper Kit, painted with a Mixture of Floquil EL Yellow & Roof Brown along with Scalecoat II Black, then lettered using Islington Station Products Decals. Eastern Car Works 1958CF Covered Hopper Kit, added airlines for brakes, removed cast on sill steps and install A-line steps. Painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Herald King Decals. Robbins Rails 50' PS1 Boxcar Kit, replaced sill steps with A-Line steps, painted Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Champ Decals. Although Atlas has just released this car, one of my club members asked if I had ever done it, I said no but I had an undecorated Branchline Kit and some decals so I said I would replicate the Atlas Car. Car assembled with substitute A-line Sill steps and then Painted with Floquil Signal Red and Platinum Mist, then lettered with Mark Vaughn Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick J

Ryan - Those modules look fantastic, the weathering on your box cars is just right, and I especially love how those Sergent couplers look. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Dave. When I get back to Texas I'm going to have to get some more Sergent couplers. I still have McHenry couplers on all my tank cars, so I really need to place an order on double shelf Es. I also have several coal engines in the works that need Type Fs, nevermind all those coal gondolas....

I really like the SP and SSW freight cars - but I'm biased!

A few pics of recent work... Got most of my major pieces for my Durango service facilities finished. The water tank is a stand-in, as I have a Durango-specific tank I'm building right now that will go in place and be less crowded due to the ladder placement. I scratched up the sand house (still needs sand) since $63 for the Campbell kit seemed a bit high (and needs to get spent on a C-19 anyway.) Camp 10 still needs a siding, but the high line is now in place to lift poles out of the gulch beyond. A new turntable built and installed at Purgatory. RadioShack has a 1/4" photo plug with a fat body now that makes a better than ever TT pivot. Time to head for home...

fr8kar how is your layout lit? The lighting looks nice and even throughout all your photos.

Nice work to all.
Rick: On your IMRC covered hopper kit, I have kind of a dumb question. Did you paint the parts first, and then assembly them? Or, did you build the kit complete, and then paint?
I have two undecorated kits I’m working on now and I’m concerned that if I assembly them first, it will be impossible to get good paint coverage in and around the end “cage” areas.
Your cars look great as always.
Mark

fr8kar how is your layout lit? The lighting looks nice and even throughout all your photos. It's located inside a large retail space with high ceilings. There are many light fixtures and they are all long fluorescent tubes.

Jim, I'm thinking on using 2 of those MDC offset double door FMC boxcars. With a lot of cutting/hacking create two sides. For the ends file and hack two spare ends from the donor cars. The roof may be the tricky part as the MDC roofs result in a fat body, I'm thinking either continue with the hacking and maiming on the existing cars or use my undec intermountain 5283 as a donor. Get everything setup and then make molds using these as masters.
I got to say cutting up two Front Range cars hardened me up to do more major chop up jobs. I'm even considering chopping up two Athearn 5283s into a high cube double door.

Your cars look great as always. Mark On the last two I did I built a complete kit as I felt trying to install the detail parts inside the end cages with paint on them would be a major PITA. So I first painted the yellow sides and roof and then masked the sides including the ladders and painted the ends and undersides later. I also made sure the pulling eyes were left unmasked as those need to be black for the white lettering to go on them. And since the ends and undersides were a one piece casting with the sides I felt prepainting was almost useless in this case. Rick J
