Well Sunday is in full swing and I haven't seen a thread for this week. With Athearn's final delivery of the NS Heritage SD70ACes I thought I'd try my hand at outdoor photography and building a small diorama. I also updated my display case. I had a couple of photos I wanted to share so I will kick it off:

I finished some cars this week: IMWX 40' 1937 AAR Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Mark Vaughn decals. This was one of 1,000 boxcars the Wabash purchased from the New Haven in the 1950's. The gap between the numbers is prototypical. Branchline 50' Berwick Boxcar Kit. Painted with Floquil Big Sky Blue and lettered with Herald King Decals. This was one of the many IPD Boxcars made in the late 70's for numerous shortline railroads, when the IPD rules changed these cars changed hands frequently. Also added the Detail Assoc. Hennessy Door Opener as the prototype had those installed. Walthers 52'6" Thrall Gon, painted with Scalecoat II Reading Green and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Removed the cast on grabs and sill steps and replaced with wire grabs and sill steps. Also added air lines between the air reservoir, ABD Valve and Brake Cylinder. Thanks for looking!

Here are a couple shots, most of these are models finished some time back. RYM H-54 D&RGW Dynamometer car #10 This is a slightly modified Walthers car, on the D&RGW it's used to move copper or lead bullion

It's a Walthers troop sleeper with some parts box stuff and wire parts added. Very few pics to work with at the time I made it.

Nice work guys. Almost finished my RS2. Just need to sort out the number boards and it's done. It's freelance for my layout but it's based on a Scotia Coal RS2 I saw on Flickr www.flickr.com/photos/hunter1828/5565003943/

My Genesis SCL SD45-2 (equipped with a Lok Sound decoder) stretching it's legs hauling an intrastate fast freight at the Suncoast Model Railroad Railroad Club's former HO layout. Even at low volume, it's custom edited Leslie RS5T horn was quite an attention getter.

Here's an Atlas FMC 5077 I started weathering last week. Sergents installed, fade applied...followed by some rust around the doors. Car should be fairly clean for my 1981 era. Not my photo, but this is a good one a friend of mine took of me at the office in September:

SNIP, those D&RGW cars are awesome! Is that re-worked Walthers boxcar one of their old waffle-boxes? Nice stuff!

The first results from my visit to Trainfest 2013... Two can be seen in this picture at my usual railfanning spot. The E8B now has a Tsunami and plays and sounds well with her two sisters on this weekend trailer train. The other is the beige Plymouth Fury in the foreground... Here's a closeup of E8B #615. This is a first generation P2K non-sound model. To sound it up, I had to make a custom speaker cabinet, as the unit was relatively sound unfriendly. The trucks also looked strange. I found that Proto left the brake rigging black with the outer truck frame painted silver. I disassembled the trucks and detail painted the bake rigging. I dusted the results with pan pastels and oiled up the tank a bit, then hit the shell with more weathering. Based upon some pictures of the prototype from 1974, I may have been a little too kind in the filthing-up department...

Thank you, yes - it's that sow's ear of a car and me trying to make it into a silk purse. Its was a $5 closeout that I stripped and changed the sill on. I left the molded grabs alone, I'd have wrecked the kit trying to remove them. It's close to a series of cars the D&RGW had but not an exact match. Lots of beautiful work and models here!

So many of the 60's cars are two door hardtops or convertibles. Sure, there were a lot especially of the two doors, but four door hardtops, two door sedans, four door sedans, six passenger station wagons and nine passenger station wagons are just not made in HO. Even in 1/25th scale auto models, everything is either a two door hardtop of convertible. There are some resin bodies for other body styles which utilize the parts from the two door kit to finish, but they are few and far between. Like the ex-UP E8B. Did you remove the dynamic brake fan? I think yours is still too clean. Those second hand E's Rock Island had were beat within a short amount of time under Rock Island ownership.

I was surprised when I found the '68 Fury in plain vanilla. I asked if they had more and I bought their only one. We need more common vehicles. I did not remove the dynamic fan. I could, but I wanted a quick sounding/weathering project, better known as the proverbial shop foreman's rant: "Git dat thing outa here!!!" I agree. I was far too kind. I have seen two shots of #615 from 1974. In the summer, she was a mess, dusty and dirty as heck with oil dripping down the center of the unit. By October, someone washed her, except for the roof.

John,
Could you describe what frame you used for the phase II GP35?

John, Could you describe what frame you used for the phase II GP35? The sill is the Kato GP35 sill which was reshaped and thinned over the fuel tank. I plan to modify the Kato chassis to work with the newer style fuel tank.

Jim and Tom; like the E units. Your right the Rock E's always had a bit of a ratty look to them, it kind of added to the charm. The BN and CNW commuter units always looked well maintained in Comparison.
John, your GP-35 looks like it is going to be a very interesting build. Which scheme do you plan to do it in?
