Last one for 2013, Happy New Year! An old P2K SD-7, this is pretty much stock, over the years I'd tried to paint and decal several units in this scheme - they never came out very nice, the yellow was always too weak. A Walthers flat and OMI dozer, this is going to get reworked with some Custom Finishing Wreckmaster parts. A slightly modified Walthers GSC, wood deck and the end bulkheads are lower, on the D&RGW these were used extensivly in wallboard service.

TBird,
Very cool work!
That SD7 looks like it has paid its owner's investment off hundreds of times over. Good weathering job on the flat cars and their loads. I especially like how realistic the wood deck on your bulkhead flatcar looks!
I can see the reddish/brownish color mixes on the planks, but did you also apply India ink?

I did use some inks on that car's deck, both brown and black along with some very thinned out Accu-Paint color washes airbrushed on.

Love that Rio Grande SD, TBird. I took a set of pictures that depict the reverse side of the normal view that visitors see. Usually, it's from down by the tracks looking along them. These make it possible to pic up places where attention is needed around foundations, gaps in the scenery, etc. Here's a pic of Cascade Falls leaving Hesperus. The dual-gauge industrial sidings at Hesperus, where the third rail ends. At Durango, the standard gauge main separates the Oriental Refinery from the loading racks for its product. On the Silverton Branch, approaching the Rio de las Animas bridge south of Silverton. From the Silverton side as the main leaves town and approaches the bridge. Finally, up at Eureka on the Silverton Northern.

This car is a upgraded Quality Craft all metal kit from the 70's. I replaced the saddles and cabinet with styrene.

Here are the cars I finished over the weekend! Eastern Car Works 1958CF ACF Covered Hopper, added airlines and A-Line Sill steps, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red paint and lettered with Herald King decals. In response to the 40' Athearn Early Bird Boxcar of which there may have been one, but not verified, the actual Early Bird cars is represented by a Branchline #1100 50' Boxcar kit, used the Despatch Roof and Ends, A-Line Sill Steps, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red paint and lettered with Greg Komar Decals. IMRC 4750CF PS Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Herald King Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick J

I bought this Oriental Limited model of the Great Northern class X31-x40 caboose in 1985. I still have the receipt which shows it cost me $66. You pay more for plastic now. The red is Testors Model Master Guards Red which accurately matched the GN Vermillion Red paint chip in the Great Northern Railway Historical Society reference sheet number 28. The black is Scalecoat I number 10. The decals are from Microscale.

This fuel dealer spur shows the latest industry on my layout to receive some finishing work. It needs more detail, but fulfills it role for now.

I just love the Sunday photo shoot. You all are so very talented and offer some really great photos to look at and share. It was much to windy today so I will hopefully do my picture taking tomorrow. Everything here looks great and you all have a pat on the back from me.

Tank Car, I remember tuning up my nose at that kit. Looking at yours makes me regret that decision.

Trevor, it's a easy build. Many of the original parts are clunky, but even at that it looks good with the two tone paint and original decals. I also changed the brake gear and safety supports. I used 3-M weather striping glue to put it together. I'm glad you like it, thanks.
Regards, Bobby

Bobby, I really like that car, too. Dang, it's a monster... I gotta try something like that, maybe a narrowgauge "whale"

Thank you Mike. I think it could be built using a Walthers LPG car as the core. Narrow gauge, you're on your own!

Thanks for posting it - as always, great work! Regards, Mark I'll just amend this post by adding that I did manage to find and purchase this kit on ebay. Bobby, thanks again for posting your model, I'd completely forgotten this kit - I'm looking forward to building it!

Bobby: Nice job on the Liquid Ethylene car. Those kits were crude, but you produced a very nice model from it.
Jimmy. really nice job on the Caboose.

Thanks Mark and Bill. Mark, you'll have to coat the decals as I'm sure you know, they will be brittle. Post photos when you finish it.
