From a personal view and the only point that really matters, the F40c was one of EMD's brutally beautiful cowls . The MP looks like a prop from a porno movie. There's a reason the GO Transit MP's gained the nickname "Willowbrook Dildos" early on. And there are various nicknames for lashups too, some probably best not repeated. One of the tamer ones is a "strap-on": an MP40 leading an F59PH + train.

.................From a personal view and the only point that really matters, the F40c was one of EMD's brutally beautiful cowls . Trebor, as Marshall Sam McCloud would say "Now there ya go!" Although I'm not modeling Metra, you guys can understand why I'm so interested in this potential project as the F40C is the SDP40F's modified sister. Imho, the 1960s cowl design is EMD's most attractive and unique post-WWII diesel locomotive body style. That boxy look connoted "Horsepower" and reminds me of tough and fast muscle cars. I was pleasantly surprised when in the 1980s we saw the introduction of the Santa Fe GP60M with a modified but VERY familiar looking nose and windshield styling. Something old that was turned into something new. No disrespect to our modern modelers but the techno-efficient MP36s, F59s, and Genesis "P-somethings" just don't look so striking to me. Today, I sometimes enjoy watching the Silver Star cruise by whenever I'm near the CSX mainline, yet seeing those wingless airplanes pulling it takes some of the rail-fanning thrill out of it.

I see where Metra is already ready to make changes to the MP36's HEP. They are doing away with the F40C style inverter off the engine and going to the old and trusted diesel genset HEP. The MP36's don't sound like they are all that well liked.
