Figured I'd kick this off early this week, as I've got a list on non-RR related to does for later... My crews now have brakes available at several spots where tying down cars on a grade while switching could be useful. I bashed a few things together and now have four brakes installed. Here are pics of what's underneath and what's on top. The small B sign is to remind crews of their locations. Still debating whether these need some sort of signal light to remind crews to disengage the brake before moving on. One of the brake installs was to facilitate adding helpers for the long grade from Dove Creek to Durango, which worked admirably. Since my dual-gauge coupler 44-tonner has been struggling to keep up, I converted another, heftier switcher to dual gauge couplers, a Walthers H10-44. A very easy conversion, there's room behind the pilot to tuck them in, but the mounting screws were going to be a problem, so I added an extended buffer to install them on.

Managed to finish some cars this past week! Atlas PS 2003CF Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Floquil C&NW Green and lettered with Herald King Decals. This is an Accurail 40' Plug Door Box, that I had originally intended to replace the existing underframe with the Accurail Fishbelly Underframe, but it was 1-1/2 Scale Feet Narrower, I managed to get the Fishbelly Part off the Underframe as the glue had not set up yet, and using my Dremel Tool cut a slot on each side of the the Plug Door Box Underframe to accept the fishbelly sides. I also removed the cast on grabs sill steps and replaced them with wire grabs and A-Line Sill Steps. Painted the car using Scalecoat II Reefer Orange & Black and lettered with decals from Tom's Hobby Shop. Car was rebuilt by North American in 1954 and leased to the CNJ for use in shipping Ballantine Beer from Newark, NJ to distributors across the country. IMWX 1937 AAR Box Car Kit, painted with C&NW Green and lettered with Champ Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick J

Nice work guys! This had to be the buy of 2013 for me, a Pecos River Brass 70 ton gon, painted for SP (had to change the car # tho) that I picked up at a swap meet for $45. The cable reels are from Herpa, weathered with chalks and airbrush. An Atlas 60' flat with two repainted Norscot models...... A Walthers Troop Sleeper, with a couple of windows blanked, Rio Grande kept the Allied trucks on some of these.

Working on a two track thru girder bridge model with a riveted trough solid floor to provide maximum under clearance. The photos show the RTV mold, one of the riveted floor panel sections and the riveted trough floor connected to the girders. Next will be fabricating the bearings and laying a concrete protective curb to the girder inside faces. Looks good. How many tracks wide? Robert, that girder span will be double track. BTW, this type of girder span only utilizes outside girders unlike the other type of multi track girder span which will have a girder between each track.

I didn't get a chance to snap a photo during the daylight today, so here's a quick grab on the kitchen table. It still needs numberboard decals and weathering and I'm not too happy with some of the decals that silvered, but I'm glad to get it to this point anyway.

Ryan, I have wanted to do one of these units, what did you start with, I followed your pictures, but nothing on starting point and additional parts. Thanks Rick J

Nice work on the C36-7! Who makes the large grills below the dynamic brake box?

I sure wish I'd kept better track of what I did, Rick. Stephen, thanks for the comments. The grilles are HTD-6006 "Dynamic Grill for C36-7, U.P., & MoPac versions" and the dynamic brake box is the Detail Associates part. The rest is just a standard Atlas C30-7 with U30C sideframes. I didn't have an extra shell to add the extra long grille on the radiator, so I omitted that, but I was able to add one of the long vertical grilles at the front of the radiator.

Ryan, nice job on the C-36-7. Looks good. Makes me wish Atlas would update, and re- release the C-30's.
T-Bird like that SP gond, that was a nice show find. Like the MOW car conversion.

Tbird,
Nice find on the gondola. I've been wanting to get some of those Walthers troop sleepers to make D&RGW MOW cars for a while now, but they fell off the radar. Nice job.

Bill and Jim,
I got stupid lucky on that SP gon, I walked past the guy's swap meet table twice before I noticed it! The troop sleeper was just fun, I like that kit.

Weeeellll... the Timonium show is next weekend. It ain't the show it used to be but hopefully I'll turn up a treasure or two. I'll have to keep an eye out for the Walthers troop sleeper too.
I was just comparing the MOW you made from the Walthers car to D&RGW AX-3417 MWC on Jim Eagers color guide page 110. Looks almost the same except the left side of the door has the window immediately to the left blanked, the next open, then blanked then open, the rest blanked to the left end. Looks like they had different arrangements. The one above AX 2410 MWC Forman Office Car has only one window blanked out, number 3 counting left from the door.
