I'll start it again. Here are a couple of more progress photos of my latest project. The hand rails were as difficult as I thought they would be, but l've done 3/4 of them. The photos only show half, but I finished another section last night. Notice all of the rivets that were hand applied one at a time. They come from an Athearn snow plow. Regards, Bobby

Bobby, Have you looked at the Archer rivet decals? Would probably speed up the process, as you wouldn't have to remove them from a model, and try and keep track of them. I used them on a caboose I built, and they are easy, and impressive.
Nice tankcar BTW.

Thanks guys. I think you need a glossy surface for Archer rivets!? Anyway, doing 1 or 2 at a time might be difficult? Besides I kinda enjoy doing it the hard way. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

Lots of little projects this week. The biggest of them was reworking my 70-tonner fleet. I finally decided to chop the cabs on them per the Hauff brothers article on converting them to HOn3 in the July 2008 TMC. It's only about a foot lower, but really adds to the narrowgauge look. I added another chassis by converting it, with very mixed results. The donor unit somehow managed to split all four cups in the driveline as well as all four axle drive gears just sitting on the shelf NIB for the last couple of years until I got to it. Sleeving the cups solved that problem, but the drivers are problematic. After several tries I do have it running but the combined run-out of all four repaired drivers is sort of ugly. I don't mind fixing them, which I did by robbing parts from what has become a donor unit. Bachmann doesn't sell the failed parts separately, you gotta buy the whole truck to get the drive axle gears, for instance. I foresee a lot more Kato conversions in my future to add to my narrowgauge diesel fleet. The raw material costs about twice as much, but the conversion is easier and the quality of the overall model is much better.

Mike, the unit and your layout look great, esp. the water and bridge!
Seattle's winter weather has defeated me this week, too rainy, crappy for outdoor pics and I didn't set up for an indoor shoot.

I've made some more progress on Crocodile GE, Minnesota Commercial's Australian-built C36-7. The radiator grilles are now etched brass: I also built up the rock pilot:

I had Highball Graphics print up some custom decals for me a while back, although the set I made didn't include specific locomotive names or numbers, so I have to fill those in with the Microscale lettering sets.

Brian, who's mesh did you use for the radiators?

I got the mesh from scalelink.co.uk The etching is a little thick, but I wasn't able to find anything else close. I remember you mentioned Special Shapes mesh when I asked about your U33B, but I couldn't track down any.

Hey can I add some of the samples I have been working on at work? I mean, since I have been working Sundays and my work should be fun, right? Only the PC has all the details added, the other 3 were still a work in progress when the photo was taken last weekend.

Finally started adding more details to my NYSW SD60 fleet that im redoing. Didn't add details the first time, paint sucked so they got stripped so why not add the details this time. Adding waste fluid tanks to fuel tank ends. Cannon steps, and yes i know about the messed up one. I didn't get all the melted plastic out of the area and glue is dry.
