It's still winter outside, but a nice Colorado spring day awaits in the layout room -- as soon as the sun comes up.

Got some cars done this week from short to long! This was an ECW 2001 Kit with widely spaced hatches, I removed the latching mechanism and mounted the hatches longitudinaly as the prototype was built, also added some sheet metal panels to replicate the Bethlehem Steel cars that the Reading purchased. Added airlines and A-line Sill Steps, painted with Scalecoat II Reading Green. Used a set of C&NW Covered Hopper and Reading Boxcar decals from Herald King as there is not a set for the only car in this class LOf that was painted in the Green and Yellow Reading scheme. This is an Eel River 62' RBL used in the Coors Beer business, car built per kit instructions, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Oddballs Decals. This goes with the white MP car I did a couple of years ago. Walthers 86' PS Hi-Cube Auto Parts Car, Painted with Scalecoat II White, Floquil Platinum Mist and PC Green and then lettered with Microscale's Decal set for 86' Hi-Cubes. Class X60p were purchased new by the PC in 1969. [2c] Thanks for looking! Rick J

Great work guys! I always enjoy seeing your layout pics Mike, and really like that PC auto part car Rick. Seattle had an uncommonly nice day Friday (we reached a balmy 60 and had sunny skies so I loaded up the car with models and a diorama, off I went to one of my fave places to shoot outdoors. Since Jim (Babalooey) had recently posted about the old Roco scraper I thought I'd share a shot of mine, it's been repainted and had a few little touches added - Still it's only going to get so good, then you just have let it be. My OMI Russell single track plow A pretty much stock MDC car that got some new trucks and a bit of upgrade on the underframe with the addition of some better brake parts a some wire, not a contest model, but ok for the layout I was drawing a little crowd as folks were out enjoying the day, this is the marina in Des Moines, WA. right on Puget Sound, looking northwest, sadly, the beautiful Olympic mountains are lost in the ground haze. Yeah, I know the car's filthy, no winter season wash rack operations!

Yeah, I know the car's filthy, no winter season wash rack operations! That's not filthy! Here's filthy: I assume that diorama fits in the wagon? How hilarious would it be to drive with it lashed to the roof...

Having grown up in California, the folks up north in Oregon and Washington discourage Californian's from moving up there by telling them the weather is lousy, lots of cloudy rainy days. When I went to college at Humboldt State University in Arcata California, which is up toward Oregon on the coast, we did get a lot of cloudy rainy crappy weather. Are clear sunny day like that hard to come by or common? Here is a photo of the PC 86' auto box car similar to the one Rick painted and decaled: Walthers offered a factory painted version similar to this which is a pretty close match - Walthers part 932-3520 PC #295552

Lol! Okay yours is dirtier - Illinois has a "real" winter! You wouldn't be taking any photos outside today in Wisconsin either. It was bright, sunny and just beautiful....except for the "high" temperature of 7 and a -10+ wind chill and this is March!!!!! Put gas in the hot rod Lincoln this afternoon and even with gloves.....I thought my paws were going to fall off! -25 for the wind chill overnight!!!! At least I'm not in the Washington D.C. area where I see they are under winter storm warnings first for ice and then 6-10" of the white stuff.

It's one rainy, cold, snotty day here today - you have to enjoy the nice ones when they come along, that's usually about July 5th! Of course the other reason is that we don't want any more people to move - when it's nice - it's really nice.

Okay, when I lived in Alaska, it was so cold the thermometers would not work anymore, it was somewhere south of -69 degrees. My kids went to school and recess was mandatory unless the temperature was below -10 and wind chill did not count! And thanks for the nice comments on the cars! Rick J

Perfect railfanning conditions though. This was a few weeks ago and the wind was howling... Rural roads everywhere were drifted over! Come to think of it I might prefer it without the wind though.

Weathered up a factory painted Athearn Genesis tonight .... View AttachmentMark. Very nice weathering. How did you do the fading / chalking? Oddly enough, I've been working with controlling the adverse effects of dullcoat going bad. I haven't nailed it yet, but I'm getting close .... Mark.

Rick- like the MoPac beer car, I have an Eel River kit that is going to meet the same fate. Bird, like the Russell plow, very subtle. Mark definitely like the job on the Geep. Mike, nice night scene. Nice work. Bill
